thank you for the pages @surfersjournal@jackjohns cool story about this board, we’d been getting a handful of twins from Steve since I was young (he’d trade me boards in exchange to mow his lawn) and I knew they worked because I used to watch Micaiah and uncle Bruce Stine rip on them, along with guys like uncle butch, josh Kamalani, my mom etc…list goes on. hanalei was the perfect wave to test and try boards for us when we were younger. the ultimate testing ground. It gave you enough time to stand up, move your ankles around or whatever, high line as hard as you can then lay into a turn. that’s why it was always the perfect twin fin wave. speed and drive, that’s all you needed. If the board didn’t work there, good luck having it go anywhere else. it was always super cool to watch the generation older than us- Sam, Kamalei, Teva, Keale, Dustin, Stevie wu, to say the least rip on their twins or terry chung fat girls. they were always so fluid and had so much style. I think Kauai might have the most versatile group of surfers outta anywhere in the world? everybody who can ride a thruster as hard as they can, could rip the fuck outta a twin fin. that’s for certain. that’s why tyler n Gavin are back to back to back champs at the twin fin comp or Barca’s king of the tree.regardless, this board in particular, is 100% made on the North shore of Kauai - shaped by steve, glassed by John delaney; 3 min away from my house in a buffalo grass covered glass shack. johnny is the only one Lis lets touch his boards on Kauai- he’s super particular about the glassing especially, and trusts Johnny with that role. i didn’t realize how important the Glasser was when I was younger until he had explained it to me. they finish the board, they seal it in, it’s the final touches on your board’s weight, rails, everything. this board in particular, we had been trying similar versions, the same shape with these keel fins (Steve will anoint you his glass ons / no exceptions) but I wanted to try something new, something with a little more drive and control for when there was a lot of water pulling off the reef. something that you could really trust on a wave bigger than 4 feet.
