5 years ago & amidst the pandemic I started the development of a mock campaign film for Nike. In the process I found myself falling in love with the visuals and the story that was then writing itself. With the inclusion of some of my family, friends & people I came across who illustrated true depictions of art, a visual love letter was being written. The film’s incompletion was a result of the whole process being something I realized I was actually writing it to myself. Making memories. Capturing life’s moments and people I felt were beautiful. This summer I was in the house. No traveling, no vacations, no parties, no “OMWs” and slight work. I kept myself inside and got high as hell… off music. Haha. Companied by 376 albums, every day I played 2-3 records from begging to end. Cultural Soul music was my life for the entire duration. I did nothing without it. Sonically my summer was spent in 1969-1982. Every lyric, instrument and feeling from those albums illustrated stories that gradually became therapeutic in ways I didn’t know I needed. Overtime, healing, soul-soothing and a new layer of deep artistic inspiration took precedence. Holding an album that art dwells while also mirroring the outside is a true form of a timeless body of work. The music and the artist from that period of time were all unapologetic staples that were formed from just feelings and beings while pushing perseverance and individuality. True feelings and beings.
