This collection of scripts, essays, biographies, interviews and photographs spotlights seven important but now often overlooked playwrights whose lives were cut short by HIV/AIDS: Charles Ludlam, James Kirkwood Jr., George Whitmore, Harry Kondoleon, Alan Bowne, Colm Ó Clúbhán and Robert Chesley. Through their lives and work, it charts the growth of queer theatre in the US and UK in the late c20th, spanning the main stage and the fringe, taking in drag, zaps, agitprop, performance art and experimental theatre, and recording the impact of HIV/AIDS on a generation of playwrights and playgoers.
