BOCCAMONTE
Boccamonte is a project by @maddalenascarzella and @odelayyy established in March 2023 in Liguria, Italy. The place, designed in the 1960s by architect Luisa Castiglioni, Maddalena’s grandmother, is a collection of unique architectural structures nestled in the woods on the hill of Montermarcello. For over forty years, it has been a meeting place for artists, editors, poets, and friends thanks to the vision of Luisa Castiglioni and her partner, Hans Deichmann, an entrepreneur, philanthropist, and an important figure in the fight against fascism in Italy. Boccamonte aims to preserve this architectural and cultural legacy by providing guests with an inspiring space which encourages retreat, reflection, and creativity, sustaining the energy and values that have always given life to this place.

The original one-off Tavolo LCD1 was designed by Luisa Castiglioni in 1963 in chestnut wood as an integrated component of Casa Castiglioni in Bocca di Magra, Liguria, now part of Boccamonte as Casa 2.
Today reproduced in iroko wood, the Tavolo LCD1 remains faithful to the original 1963 design. The table is available upon request via the link in bio.

Boccamonte’s architectural system is rooted in the genius loci of the Mediterranean promontory of Bocca di Magra, Liguria.
In the 1960s, Luisa Castiglioni discovered this small coastal village as an ideal context in which to freely cultivate her vision of architecture and life.
Here, she worked across scales (from landscape to interior design) developing a system of refined residential buildings in the forest above the village, immersed in nature and open to the sea horizon.

Veneziana is a design by Boccamonte from 2026, conceived as a filtered light inspired by the shading elements of Luisa Castiglioni’s architecture. Two polycarbonate panels frame a Venetian blind that modulates light through the variable inclination of its slats. Like a theatrical device, the alucobond casing reveals glimpses of the layered composition of the stage flats of different materials.

Here, she designed a series of refined residential buildings in the forest, immersed in nature and open to the sea horizon. Her houses became gathering places for friends, artists, publishers, and architects, as well as working studios for an architect who was always deeply engaged with the construction process.
Boccamonte emerged from this physical and cultural landscape. Today it functions both as a place of hospitality and as a laboratory for experimentation between nature and contemporary design, fostering a dialogue between heritage and innovation.

Ango Lare is a design by Boccamonte from 2026, continuing Luisa Castiglioni’s research into the forms and performance of lighting elements. The lamp interacts with two converging walls, to which two mirrored triangles are attached, fixed at a right angle and hinged together. A bridging LED projects light onto the mirrors, redefining and expanding the perceived boundaries of the room.

Cavaletto LCD 1 is a design by Luisa Castiglioni from 1963. The original trestle was crafted in chestnut wood for Casa Castiglioni in Bocca di Magra, Liguria, now part of Boccamonte. The assembly of slender quare-section profiles generates its articulated, self-supporting structure. Today, the trestle is reproduced in iroko wood, based on the original design.
