#BREAKING: Miami Police Officer Caught on Video Allegedly Lying About Hit-and-Run Crash in City Vehicle that Took Down a Palm Tree #BecauseMiami
Ofc. Antonio Hernandez was Commissioner Miguel Gabela’s hand-picked Sgt. at Arms, an elite high-paying promotion usually reserved for officers with over 10 years experience and dignitary training. Hernandez, an officer for less than 6 years, was reportedly not qualified for the assignment, but is “a close family friend with strong personal ties to” Gabela.
On Friday, January 23rd at 7:32AM Hernandez reported the crash in his city rented SUV. Problem is, this exclusive video evidence shows it occurred THE NIGHT BEFORE. For some reason, Hernandez waited nearly nine hours, re-created the crash at the scene, and then called police. He has been on paid leave ever since.
Almost four months later, despite apparently clear cut evidence, the Miami-Dade Sheriff and State Attorney say, “this remains an active and ongoing investigation.”
You can’t spell Eileen without L-I-E…
New Miami Mayor Eileen Higgins promised to stop local police from collaborating with ICE — instead, Miami is the #1 city for immigration enforcement encounters in Florida, according to a state database. #BecauseMiami

#BREAKING: Miami Hurricanes Head Coach Mario Cristobal to testify in the murder case of former cornerback Rashaun Jones for the November 2006 shooting death of teammate Bryan Pata.
The judge declared a mistrial in March after jurors were deadlocked 5-1 in favor of acquitting Jones. Defense attorneys filed notice with the court last week that they will subpoena and take sworn depositions from Cristobal and former Head Coach Larry Coker in June via Zoom ahead of the September retrial.
Jones’s lawyers likely want to question Cristobal about information that arose in episode 3 of @espnoriginals 30 for 30’s ‘Murder at The U’ podcast:
Just over an hour before the murder, tight end Chris Zellner overheard Pata having “a very heated” profanity-laced cell phone conversation in the locker locker on campus after practice. Zellner recalls Pata yelling: “If you want it, man, come see me then!”
After Pata was found dead with one bullet wound to the head outside his apartment, the team was called back to campus so Coker could break the news. Zellner told then offensive line coach Mario Cristobal that he needed to talk to police to report what he’d heard earlier that night.
Also, Coach Cristobal’s older brother Luis, also a former Miami Hurricanes player (1986-1991) was a Miami-Dade Police deputy at the time of Pata’s murder who, according to the original lead detective’s report, attended at least two meetings about the case.
Despite new Miami Mayor Eileen Higgins’s desperate power play, removing city commission Chair Christine King and hijacking control of the meeting herself to force through her Billion Dollar Bond Boondoggle, commissioners gave @mayoreileenhiggins a Miami welcome (i.e. 🖕) — blocking (for now) the mayor’s misguided scheme that could drive the city into bankruptcy. #BecauseMiami
This is the wrong plan at the wrong time. THANK YOU to Commissioners Miguel Gabela, @damianpardomiami and Christine King for doing the right thing and slowing this process down for more information, deliberation and moderation. Our first responders deserve better. Upgrades MUST be made to fix the neglect of our police and fire stations. The issue is: how to pay for it and remain fiscally responsible in these economically uncertain times. Not just giving the government a billion dollar credit card.
At this week’s “Networking Breakfast with City of Miami Mayor Eileen Higgins,” a public event sponsored by @communitynewspapers Higgins and her chief of staff Maggie Fernandez blew off locals, including a Colombian immigrant who campaigned for Higgins and tried to express her concern that, after decades of living in the U.S., Miamians are being locked up and shipped away from their homes and families (the ICE Miami Field Office leads the nation in immigration arrests with 120 a day). Community Newspapers publisher Michael Miller @mmiller657 then ejected the guests despite the fact that they had confirmed RSVPs for the event.
While running for office and after first getting elected last year, @mayoreileenhiggins promised she would review the legal framework of the city’s 287(g) ICE collaboration agreement and insisted that local police should not be doing the job of federal immigration authorities, especially in our city of immigrants — where 58% of residents are foreign-born. Instead, Florida’s State Board of Immigration Enforcement database reveals that the Miami Police Department is the #1 city police agency in the state for immigration enforcement.
GABELAS GONE WILD (PART 2): “You don’t know Miami history!”
Commissioner Miguel Gabela and his wife were NOT happy that I questioned why he just sponsored a (unanimously passed!) resolution to name a street for a criminal — ex-Miami commissioner Angel Gonzalez who resigned in disgrace after pleading guilty to public corruption charges. #BecauseMiami

Secret Service Agent arrested at Miami DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel for allegedly following hotel guests to their room, dropping his pants and m@sturbating in the hallway. #BecauseMiami
John Spillman, 33, was in Miami on the security perimeter screening detail at Trump National Doral for the President’s visit to the 2026 PGA Cadillac Championship. His assignment ended on Sunday and he was off-duty when arrested that night at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Miami Airport & Convention Center.
Spillman will be released on a $1,000 bond and has been placed on administrative leave by the Secret Service pending the outcome of the criminal and internal investigations.

The City of Miami Beach has a First Amendment problem…
I’ve been trying to ask accused serial sex pest mayor Steven Meiner questions for months and city staff like Daphne Saba ignore emails, delay public records requests and sneak him around city hall and out the back door to avoid the public and press.
My roots in this city go back generations and it’s a tragedy how Meiner and his Tonton Macoute have destroyed our beautiful island town.
There are a lot of decent hard-working people working at the city, but they’re being held hostage by corrupt and incompetent leadership. Meiner, city mismanager Eric Carpenter, city attorney/mob lawyer Ricardo Dopico, police chief Wayne Jones, and city commissioners have sent a clear message that ethics can be ignored, laws broken and the Constitution violated — without consequence.
“Speak up, speak out, make change”: We start off the week with some rare good news in the fight against the Miami Mafia’s firehose of f*ckery! #BecauseMiami
Miami-Dade Sheriff’s @miamidadesheriffsoffice Deputy Lester Aguilar caught on video physically violating the First Amendment rights of a veteran reporter, then falsely accuses him of putting his hands on him. Aguilar was trying to stop WPLG’s Jeff Weinsier @jweinsierwplg from asking Mayor Daniella Levine Cava about $62 million in taxpayer money wasted on an unused electric bus fleet bought from a now bankrupt company — the county was even covering up their location! #BecauseMiami
Cava is a fraud who betrayed everyone who voted for her and everything she claimed to stand for.
I look forward to digging more into Cava and the rampant corruption at the county — which makes the City of Miami look like a Sunday school picnic.
“It’s a Miami Mafia Mockery”: At this week’s city commission meeting, I call on Mayor Eileen Higgins to fulfill her campaign promises of doing a “deep dive” into the city’s out of control budget and auditing the $400 million (plus interest!) Miami Forever Bonds — before she makes us pay for another HALF-A-BILLION DOLLAR credit card. And I call out Commissioner Miguel Gabela’s embarrassing scheme to name a street after an ex commissioner who resigned after confessing to a public corruption charge. #BecauseMiami
Later in the meeting, Mayor Higgins deferred the bond item until May and the commission voted 5-0 to name the street after a criminal commissioner.
