In October 2023, German Mother Candy Old Navy created (@candyelijah ), together with @jukuz and @berlinballroompier, the much-loved weekly session Candy Lounge, which Candy designed as a finishing school for experienced Ballroom walkers — built around drilling and coaching, back-to-back battles to build stamina and sharpen battle awareness, and the sharing of knowledge between generations. What began as that focused training ground has since grown into something broader — equally a weekly community release: somewhere to vogue, strut, and shake off the frustrations that accumulate from the daily realities we navigate as young QTBIPOCs.

As Candy Lounge approaches its third anniversary, we are excited to announce a new chapter: the next generation is stepping in as facilitators, while founding mother Candy Old Navy moves into background work.

From now on, the session will be hosted by Gwapo Laveaux (@brained_out) — a consistent pillar of the Pier community and one of its most supportive presences. If he’s not screaming for you at a ball, you probably did something wrong.

Joining Gwapo is TM Performance Menace from NYC, Slyde 007 (@walkerson50), who has been making international waves as a trans man voguing femme — challenging stereotypical boundaries within Ballroom categories.

Candy Lounge takes place every Tuesday from 17:30 to 19:30. It is primarily intended for experienced Ballroom walkers, but open to those who wish to learn by watching the big girls work.

Candy Lounge is specifically aimed at trans and queer people aged 14–27, with a focus on Black, Brown, and People of Color.

Beyond competing, Amowia is is the founder of OVAH Hannover, a community ballroom project in Hannover that creates space for Black queer and trans individuals to explore, express, and engage with ballroom culture.
