Despite Colorado being the most popular destination for river recreation in the country, we have some of the worst public access laws in the west. @nrsweb, @backcountryhunters, @americanwhitewater, @bonfire_collective, are producing Common Waters, a film that will educate the public on our river access rights - or lack thereof - and inspire Coloradans to take action to improve the status quo. Rivers in Colorado sustain us, supporting our way of life and robust outdoor economy. The Colorado Stream Access Coalition believes that there is a path forward to ensure that outdoor recreation on Colorado’s rivers can be enjoyed by all while ensuring that private landowner and water rights are protected.

two years ago, we embarked on the journey of creating Common Waters. The film’s genesis stemmed from a coalition of outdoor conservation and recreation groups seeking to tackle an issue rooted in Colorado’s tumultuous past, marked by legal battles over public use of waterways overlapping private land. My own awareness ignited during the 2009 Taylor River dispute, which saw a legislative ‘right to float’ ultimately fail, leaving the core question of public stream access frustratingly unanswered fifteen years on. Through Common Waters, we aim to pull this vital issue from the shadows of neglect, not merely to educate Coloradans on our ambiguous river laws, but to ignite a renewed call for decisive action from our elected officials, who are entrusted to resolve these hard issues for the public good.

Better late then never. Way back in 2021 I directed and shot a short documentary film titled, Pronghorn Persistence for @firstlitehunting. The film follows a wildlife biologist in Laramie, Wyoming who investigates the challenges pronghorn experience on the unforgiving landscape as they embark on their seasonal migrations.

After a successful film festival run, @firstlitehunting totally dropped the ball and never shared the film despiteour contract stating that the film would live on their YouTube and they would be in charge of distribution. So here we are. This film has been collecting dust on my hard drive for years and I decided it would be best to just share it on my tiny YouTube channel.
