In honour of Aunty Marge (Lilardia) Tucker

End of last year I received a call from @grace_dlabik about putting a pitch in for a mural, a piece to reflect on the life and legacy of Aunty Marge Tucker. Knowing a bit about Aunty Marge through reading her book, “If Everyone Cared Enough,” I knew I wanted to take the opportunity to create an artwork to share who she was and what she did with her life. It was really special to connect with Aunty Marge’s granddaughter, Tania Rossi, who shared stories and photographs of Aunty Marge with me that inspired the artwork.
Earlier this year we found out our pitch was voted in by the community and after months of planning, we finally got to slap some paint on the wall a few weeks ago!

The biggest thank you to @grace_dlabik for bringing me into this opportunity and guiding me through it all. Thanks for holding down the fort in the background, making sure it was all running smoothly and for the coffee scrolls 🤤 Thank you to @be.onecreative for production management, and Grace for project managing. To my deadly team of assistants, @kiritawhaiart @em_swami @kee.ahn Thank you so much for all your help with bringing this to life, I couldn’t have done this without your help and appreciate the chats, the river lunch dates, and the laughs to get us through the big days.

This project was commissioned by Victorian State Government and Maribyrnong Council, and I appreciate the local members who came down to chat and look after us during the project.

Check out the behind the scenes of this piece coming together. If you’re in Footscray, head up to Lilardia Park to see this piece in the flesh, or if you’re on the train heading past Footscray, keep your eyes peeled for it.

Hopefully more of this in the future so if you’ve got a wall you need some colour on, let me know 😉

Signing off until next year, with love! 🖤💛❤️

We have officially launched this mural light work by @brook_garru_andrew.
It was an honour to lead the project on the ground on behalf of Brook with my talented team of painters, trouble shooters and all round gems! ✨
This particular project had many challengers all of which we worked out and were able to bring to life Welcome to Footscray!

Brook Andrew artist statement:
“Welcome to Footscray, is a public artwork that is playful and catchy to the eyes and welcomes people home to Footscray. The coloured lights and shapes enhance an optical black and white pattern and is a metaphor for the cultural and linguistic diversity of this inspiring community. The changing aspects of this work through day and night is a way finder for locals and newcomers or visitors who love our Footscray!”

Thank you Brook for your trust to enlist me and the team, it was an honour!
Special thanks to my team of diligent and hard working assistants who braved the cold, turbulent weather conditions, very early morning starts and working at heights (four levels of scaffolding on top a roof) was scary at times and definitely not for the faint hearted! To make this work there was a whole team ofpainters @em_swami @samair @danelborne @theylaniii@be.onecreative and collaborators.
Studio manager/ producer @schweitzergram.
Admin and assisting @ru_____th.
Lighting design and fabrication Liam @event_engineering_sydney.
Alex and electrical team from @wattselectricalservices
Joe TDC painters, Murray Teal Scaffolders, @paradymesecurity and the team from @cityofmaribyrnong Bernadette Alibrando and Kate Shearer for their all round care and trust!

Welcome to Footscray - Illuminate was commissioned by State Government of Victoria and Maribyrnong Council and is part of the Streetworks initiative.
Measurements approximately 17mtr x 10mtr.

Welcome to Footscray is located at the intersection of Hopkins and Moore St Footscray Naarm/ Melbourne.

If you haven’t yet checked out this mammoth mural our amazing creative Aretha Brown aka @_enterthedragon_ did, do yourself a favour and go visit the site on corner of Smith and Kerr st Fitzroy.

This work was created in partnership with @converse_anz using paint that absorbs pollution out of the air!
Also all proceeds of the t-shirts Aretha designed from this project went to our good friends @niyec_mob who we’ve been working with for a couple years!
