Bar Neiro isn’t open to the public again just yet - but we expect to get the green light to reopen soon. Tonight, we held a second private listening event featuring the beautiful and atmospheric LP Laputa by pioneering Japanese electronic producer Susumu Yokota. The album is part of a new double box set from Lo Recordings, featuring 14 records originally released on Yokota’s own Skintone label.

Thanks to everyone who came along, and to our friend Lisa Zhang for selecting the Taiwanese oolong tea. Apologies to those whom we could not accommodate this time - we hope to see you soon when we resume normal operations.

Bar Neiro isn’t open to the public again just yet - but we expect to get the green light to reopen soon. In the meantime, we’re holding two private listening events, featuring ambient albums by pioneering Japanese electronic producer Susumu Yokota: Laputa and Image 1983-1998. These remastered albums are part of a new double box set from @lorecordings featuring 14 records originally released on Yokota’s own Skintone label.

Sound fragments swirl among Laputa’s resonant textures. The Miyazaki film of the same name, inspired by 1940’s science fiction artist Tetsuji Fukushima, likely had an influence on this LP  – Yokota enjoyed the film maker’s use of emotional nuance.  Image 1983–1998 is a delicate and unadorned sequence of organ, guitar and tape studies. In describing his goal when making music, he said “I’m trying to achieve that beautiful thing. There is always fear, rage, and ugliness existing behind beauty… I would like to express even one’s hidden emotion.”

The events will feature incense selected and handmade by @ryoko.berlin , two multidisciplinary creatives who explore the sensory world through immersive scent-scape installations, and olfactory creations at their boutique in Neukölln. Their approach emphasises the use of natural materials from around the world, researching the intersections between human civilisations, botanical cultures, and the Earth’s memory as a living witness. 

We will also be offering a tasting of Taiwanese and Chinese teas, selected by our friend Lisa Zhang.

Join us tomorrow evening (Thursday) at Zenner Saal for another evening of intimate, spatial listening. Analogue Foundation is honoured to host @lyra.pramuk , whose devotional and boundary-shifting music connects voice, electronics, ritual, and care. Her latest album Hymnal deepens her journey into sacred sound and collective resonance.

For this Analogue Foundation Live Series event, Pramuk invites us into a world where the human voice is not merely sung but sculpted, and where music becomes a ritual of collective renewal, drawing on themes of ecology, identity and transformation. Lyra will be joined by Islam El-Ghazouly, who will perform Sufi whirling as a form of physically active meditation and ritualistic dance.

Opening the live program is Lara Dâmaso & Alex Lazaro — a duo whose recent performance at Biennale Son fused voice, transducers, and percussion in a delicate, resonant conversation. The night begins with sets by Akïï, a rising Italian experimental artist.

As always, the Saal becomes an intimate listening space—one where you’re invited to sit, stand, or lie down, and simply be with the sound.

Eliza McCarthy, the celebrated pianist known for her emotive interpretations, has shared a profound musical journey with composer Mica Levi. Together, they’ve ventured into intricate soundscapes, exploring Mica’s unique, genre-defying scores that blend classical elements with experimental undertones.

Electronic music composer and sound artist Gizem Öz designs sensory environments aimed at challenging perceptions and facilitating new experiences. Through a combination of processed field recordings and electroacoustic instruments, she constructs intricate auditory landscapes that provoke contemplation and introspection.

works by acclaimed composer Mica Levi from Slow Dark Green Murky Waterfall. McCarthy’s interpretations of Levi’s minimalist and atmospheric compositions create a deeply contemplative listening experience. Marylou grew up in the dub and reggae scene in the south of France, before studying painting and cinema, all of which influence her way of seeing and hearing music. Recently, she has worked with Rabih Beaini and helped to establish his @morphine_records_raum in Berlin. Tomorrow, expect a wide-ranging journey through traditional music, jazz, improv and experimental. 🔮
