Tari Cendrawasih, performed by dancers Ni Wayan Arma Yonika Sari @armayonika and Ni Putu Yoni Antari , and the musicians of @sunariwakya

This recording session was the most challenging one I recorded on my trip to Indonesia. It would not have been possible without my good friend and engineering collaborator, Purnama @sunariwakya_studio , his brother @deama.dinata for coordinating the music, and the great music teacher Ibu Mang Rai.

30 musicians and two amazing dancers, and no time to practice the video movements. We setup 10 microphones, 3 cameras, a gimbal, lights, and decided instrument placement within two and a half hours. Mastered by Steve Marek of @cybernetic_meadow_recording

Sesi rekaman ini merupakan yang paling menantang yang saya kerjakan selama perjalanan saya di Indonesia. Hal ini tidak akan mungkin terlaksana tanpa bantuan sahabat sekaligus rekan kolaborator saya, Purnama (@sunariwakya_studio) untuk membuat rekamanya, Made Dinata @deama.dinata sebagai kordinator musik, dan guru penari Ibu Mang Rai.

Melibatkan 30 musisi dan dua penari yang luar biasa, tanpa adanya waktu untuk berlatih koreografi khusus untuk video. Kami memasang 10 mikrofon, 3 kamera, sebuah gimbal, tata cahaya, serta menentukan tata letak instrumen—semuanya diselesaikan dalam waktu dua setengah jam. Dimastering oleh Steve Marek dari @cybernetic_meadow_recording.

I had the great honor of meeting and even collaborating with many musicians I have admired for a long time, especially

1) Composer Pak Wayan Widia @widia.iwayan (and our friend Ibu Sri @srilovina_168 ), with whom I collaborated for a documentary on his work and compositional concepts, and who was supportive and enthusiastic about working together in my time there 🙏

2) Composer Pak Nyoman Windha, who I had the pleasure of interviewing 🔥

3) Pak Dewa Berata @berata.dewa , of Pengosekan's Çudamani, one of my favorite Balinese gamelan 💥

4) Pak Sabri and the musicians of Empat Sekawan, local legends of the kecapi music tradition of the Bugis people of South Sulawesi, who I did a music and interview session with, thanks to @parepareindie and Pak Ittas @ittas_b 🎉

Additional thanks to @coldrebellion @palmernesia @fishbowl_candidture and other friends who helped me get in touch with these musicians and make my dreams come true 🪐
