ASVOFF Film Festival
The world’s first international fashion, culture & film festival
➝ 2026 Edition — Submissions now open.

ASVOFF Founder and Director, Fashion icon Diane Pernet @asvof, announces that Stephen Jones @stephenjonesmillinery will be #ASVOFF18 Jury President.
Stephen Jones OBE, President of ASVOFF 18, is the quintessential milliner of modern fashion drama. Born in Cheshire and raised in Liverpool, he came of age amid London’s lateseventies street-style revolution, dividing his time between St Martins by day and the legendary Blitz nightclub by night, crowned in his own uncompromising creations. In 1980 he opened his Covent Garden salon, swiftly becoming the hatmaker of choice to rock stars and royalty, from Boy George to Diana, Princess of Wales.
Over four decades, his radical materials and quixotic forms have shaped runway mythology. His collaborations span Vivienne Westwood, Rei Kawakubo, John Galliano, Thom Browne, Christian Dior and beyond, his hats often providing the defining gesture of a collection. His work resides in major museum collections and has been celebrated in landmark exhibitions, including “Stephen Jones: Chapeau d’Artiste” at the Palais Galliera in Paris.
From Lady Gaga’s feathered headdress at the Paris Olympics to unforgettable couture tableaux, Stephen Jones continues to place the perfect exclamation mark on contemporary fashion, one beguiling silhouette at a time.

“If there is any activism in what I do, it is in defending individuality: encouraging others to explore the shadows of fashion – the more fragile, eccentric, or uncomfortable ideas” - Diane Pernet
There are some people who arrive already made, as if the world accepted them wholesale and asked nothing in return, and Diane Pernet is one of those preformed myths – a veiled silhouette in black that immediately registers as archetype; the kind of person whose clothes are a shorthand for an attitude. Her public persona has been honed, certainly, but it’s not manufactured. Before the ASVOFF sign went up near 20 years ago, and her fashion film festival became the node where fashion’s image-makers congregate, she had already been shaped by multiple explorations in the environs of style.
“I think regardless as to whether it’s a piece of music, a film, or an artwork, it is easy to see what is authentic, and authenticity is probably what I value the most” - Diane Pernet
Over seventeen editions ASVOFF has functioned both as incubator and shrine – it discovers, elevates and, occasionally, even canonises. Yet, even as it performs that cultural labour, it remains alert to the fragility of its own medium. Pernet worries, as many thoughtful people do, about a world sliding toward simulations – the proliferation of virtual experiences and algorithmic curation increasingly producing images that lack in the human anchors that give art its friction. But perhaps what is most compelling about Pernet is the way she bundles these kinds of contemporary contradictions into coherence – embracing new technologies while simultaneously challenging them.. in her insightful interview with FUTURISTIC DRAGON the single‑minded polymath unpicks the zeitgeist, talks about always being open to the unpredictable, and explains why provocation remains essential to great filmmaking.
