When was the last time you checked Google logo?
Just a couple of days ago, Google replaced its decade-long wordmark with an updated version set in Google Sans Flex. The most noticeable changes: new letter proportions, a higher x-height, and a softer, more geometric feel. The goal is to make it easier to roll out new products, since they can all now rely on a existing typeface.
And (if you ask us ;) it also fixes several typographic issues in the previous wordmark, especially the lowercase “g” and the slanted “e”.

Meet Elena, tech lead at Ashler, sharing what we’ve been building with The Forge.
We’re a studio born from typography + web, and we’ve spent years in the type world — publishing our own foundry and working alongside amazing designers worldwide. The Forge comes straight from that experience: a CMS designed for selling typefaces online, from licensing to specimens, testers, glyph viewers, and the everyday workflow of a digital foundry.
Curious to see it in action? Visit [**theforge.ashler.design**](http://theforge.ashler.design) and book a demo — or just say hi in the comments. We’d love to show you around (and give you a sneak peek of what’s coming next).

What a joy, what beautiful news — Tiphares has just won a 2025 Hiiibrand Award.✨
The @hiiibrand Awards are among the world’s leading international competitions in branding and communication design, recognising outstanding creative work from studios, agencies, and designers across more than 40 countries.
Tiphares is a “semi-serif” typeface, positioned between a sans serif (without serifs) and a traditional serif. It combines a rational, compact structure with subtle serifs that provide visual support. It is not intended to be “the most legible typeface in the world,” but rather a typeface designed using scientific knowledge about how we read, especially in contexts such as signage, interfaces, small text, and quick or distance reading.
This recognition means a lot to us. It celebrates the vision, care, and passion behind every detail of its design.

While preparing the presentation for Osasuna’s business club, we revisited this branding, typography, and website project we did for Optimus Crane: a consultancy specialising in complex crane operations for renewable energy infrastructure.

We’re excited to finally share something we’ve been building for a long time.😁
Introducing The Forge.
The way type is sold today is increasingly centralized.
Distribution is controlled by a few platforms, and type designers—the ones pushing the discipline forward—are left with less control over their own work: pricing, licensing, and even the relationship with their customers.
The Forge exists to change that.
It’s not just a CMS.
It’s the infrastructure to build and run your own foundry—on your own terms.
Built by people inside the industry, and shaped through a decade of real projects, The Forge gives you full control over how your type is presented, sold, and licensed.
- Flexible licensing systems
- Fully customizable experience (design, invoices, emails…)
- Multilingual support
- CRM integrations
- Curated bundles and collections for clearer pricing logic
- A synced physical merchandising store
And yes—no commissions.
You keep what you sell. Because it’s yours.
The Forge is already powering a growing network of independent foundries, and it continues to evolve with them.
We’ll soon introduce The Forge Mini—a streamlined version designed for emerging designers, making it easier to start small and scale with clarity.
Start selling your fonts. Your way.
https://theforge.ashler.design/
#CMS #WebDesign #CustomCMS #CreativeCoding #TheForge #Typefaces #TypeFoundrys #Ashler
You draw the glyphs.
You space the letters.
You export the files.
And then the real work begins.
A foundry is not just a folder of fonts.
It’s release notes, specimen pages, test strings, updates, bug fixes.
Customer support, invoices, VAT, licenses, renewals, edge cases.
And when you finally want to build your own licensing system,
you discover the standard tools were never built for type.
So you compromise.
You simplify.
You bend your offers to fit someone else’s checkout.
The Forge changes that.
Unlimited licensing, with absolute control.
Your rules, your prices, your terms, your customer relationship.
Your foundry, your way
https://theforge.ashler.design/
You design the typeface.
You build the family.
You refine every detail.
And then comes the hard part:
actually selling it.
Setting up a foundry today still means stitching together tools that were never made for this.
E-commerce platforms, custom code, licensing workarounds, fragmented workflows.
And even then, you’re often pushed towards marketplaces—
giving up control over pricing, presentation, and your relationship with customers.
It shouldn’t be this complicated.
Running your own foundry should feel like an extension of your practice,
not a technical challenge you have to solve on the side.
That’s exactly why we built something new.
More soon.

How to craft a perfect rag??
To typeset a high-quality rag for headlines, you must consider three essential pillars:
⭕️ Line Variance (Rhythm): It’s about creating a harmonious and coherent “staggered” effect. Try to follow a pattern of short line–long line–shot line–long line and so on. While there are moments when this scheme can be altered, the core idea is to achieve a natural-looking rag.
⭕️ Narrative Flow (Logic): Typography is meant to be read. Primarily, line breaks should follow the meaning and flow of the sentence; control the position of conjunctions, articles and short prepositions, avoiding conceptual “orphans” or “widows”, to ensure the reading experience isn’t interrupted by awkward pauses.
⭕️ Visual Balance (Aesthetics): Here, the key is to combine your own professional perception with the other two pillars to achieve overall visual balance. Always keep the silhouette and optical spacing in mind.
*** Beyond the visual aspect, always double-check the dictionary and language settings in your layout software to ensure that hyphenation is done correctly (InDesign, Illustrator, etc.).
· It’s that simple: by combining these three criteria with your own typographic judgment, you can transform a simple block of text into a visually structured and sophisticated piece of design.
