Ange Loft (@_aloft_) has built an incredible new tool and consulting service as an artist-researcher, with help from colleagues @artisticintelligencelab. We’re so proud of how useful the CYCLES planning process is proving to be. Some City staff are already working her recommendations into their strategic plans. Go Ange! Thank you to the @cityofto Interdivisional Placekeeping Team for hosting this process. We’re looking forward to sharing the final report and recommendations with you.

It is a great honour for us to co-present @ksjart’s first-ever solo exhibition. Vulnerable and honest, the works here reveal the inner experience of child refugees, and the unintended cost of refuge.

Karina Sanchez Jaimes was born in Toluca, Mexico. At the age of 10, she and her family immigrated to Canada. Today, she is studying Industrial Design at Humber College, and helps her family run a Mexican food business at Scadding Court Community Centre.

This exhibition features a series of paintings that Karina made last summer. Her intent is for people to understand that when they migrate, and when they bring kids along, those children also “go through it.” Adults often focus on their reasons for leaving, their vision or goals, but the child has their own internal narrative of rupture and disturbances. The child moves through her own journey witnessed only by herself.

“We were being targeted by the cartel. It was very intense. We were afraid. When we applied for refugee status, I had to write repeatedly about how bad it is to live in Mexico, and our family had to go through multiple interviews. They would question me, as a 10-year old, and yet if I wanted to speak up in response to other questions, I was shut down... The lawyers would ask me what I remember, what the difficult things were that we went through. My childhood experiences were framed and reframed within this narrative of negativity and violence. Ultimately, my parents can remember happy memories of Mexico, but I cannot.”

This exhibition traces Karina’s difficult story, and, happily, her eventual arrival at peace within her being.

Have you been by lately? The Sound Eater by @meghanbcheng is resting behind @artisticintelligencelab’s PS707, after a great voyage from @torontosculpturegarden…… More to come, but for now here’s some background on this magnificent public art, currently sitting across from the outdoor pool.

The Sound Eater is a data visualization of some classic Toronto sounds: birds calling, St. James church bells, and the sound of the streetcar.

The data visualization is comprised of the urban, natural and cultural sounds that make up the chaotic, vibrant and contradictory soundscape of downtown Toronto.

The serpent’s spine mirrors audio waves from specific events, with the height of each segment corresponding to the amplitude of recorded sounds. Audio recordings from the garden were analyzed and applied to a parametric design for the sculpture’s shape.

Meghan Cheng is a violinist and new media artist based in Toronto, Canada. Her work integrates live performance, data and interactive technologies. She creates immersive installations and screen-based work where sound, image and data respond to one another in real time.Central to her practice is the idea that technology can be a tool for connection and a heightened awareness of our physical surroundings. By designing systems that generate visuals and sonic responses in real time, she aims to create spaces in which the audience is both witness and participant, focusing on the interplay between performer, instrument, and system. Cheng’s work has been presented in galleries, festivals, concerts and theatre performances, where she explores how technology can bring our attention to the current moment and our surroundings.

Gather with Dr. Kathryne Daniel of Yellow Mountain Institute and University of Arizona, Dr. Carmela Roybal and poet Kamella Cruz of Native American Budget & Policy Institute to explore collaborations for pluralism and other ways of being in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM).

April 29, 2026
3:30pm - 5pm Eastern
Online. RSVP for link.

What would make physics and astronomy feel like Indigenous youth can have ownership, and join these fields with their whole selves as uniquely-positioned contributors?

While STEM education as a whole needs to evolve to embrace diverse ways of being, seeing, and doing, how might Indigenous communities, and queer, creative spaces lead?

Who can contribute? What models and practices do we admire? What actions and initiatives can we help amplify?

ART/IN Forum’s COFFEE & TEA gatherings are seasonal opportunities to connect as colleagues while exploring images, ideas, and desires through lightly facilitated creative process.

COFFEE & TEA gatherings are led by hosts interested in identifying possible directions for future activities.

“Having learned to turn old bed sheets into braided rugs at the age of three, I was raised to believe that any cloth that came into our house had to pull its own weight. By that I mean, whether it was clothing or a domestic textile, it would have a second use. […] Styles and trends would be rethought, and the end of “wearabilty” was not an end of life.”

We love Joe Lewis’ artist statement - read it on our blog (link in bio or search Joe Lewis on our blog) - and we love his current exhibition at PS707 just as much. The colours, the textures, the stories he can tell you about every scrap of fibre that made it into these works.

Joe Lewis’ Second Hand Rose Revisited: A Triptych, is on view for the next few weeks.

Also, Joe will be offering weaving workshops this spring/summer at PS707. Check the PS707 calendar for announcements, or subscribe to our newsletter.
