Twenty years. And art has never felt more necessary.

Art Dubai marks its 20th anniversary today with its VIP Preview — not with a grand spectacle, but with something more meaningful: a reminder of why we keep returning to art in the first place. Running May 15–17 at Madinat Jumeirah in a free-entry, reimagined format, this edition is shaped by the current moment — measured, collaborative, and deeply human.

This year, the works speak loudest:
@hashelamki — Maat (2025): a textile-based installation developed with artisans across Mallorca, Kerala and Cairo — craft as a cross-cultural act of solidarity.
Ahmed & Rashid Bin Shabib — Manameh Pavilion: first shown at the Venice Biennale Architettura 2025, now reimagined here — an elevated, open-air structure for shade and communal gathering.
@nedarazavipour — Silk Road (Ab-Anbar Gallery): textiles transformed into soft architecture, weaving Persian and Flemish motifs to explore cultural exchange, memory and the historical connections along the Silk Road.
And lastly, our favourite @roudhahamad ‘s solo booth with @taymourgrahneprojects

As Alexie Glass-Kantor puts it: “In times of crisis, culture is not just another add-on — it is often the thing that people turn to for renewal and healing.”

At 20, Art Dubai holds its place as a force that grounds us when everything else is in flux.

One year since the closing of Unbound Territories, our inaugural exhibition presented by A+ Art Consultancy at @foundrydowntown , in collaboration with @gillianjasongallery .

Bringing together women artists across generations, geographies, and mediums, Unbound Territories marked the beginning of our curatorial journey—one rooted in dialogue, nuance, and a commitment to amplifying distinct artistic voices. From emerging practices to historically significant figures, the exhibition explored the fluid boundaries of identity, material, and expression.

Looking back, it remains a defining moment for us—not only as a first exhibition, but as a foundation for everything that has followed.

We remain grateful to the artists, collaborators, and everyone who engaged with the show.

Exhibition Spotlight | Martha Jungwirth

Currently on view at @thaddaeusropac, Paris, ‘Geh nicht aus dem Zimmer (Don’t Leave Your Room)’ centres on a remarkable 131-part installation of drawings and paintings on paper, created between 1987 and 1992 and described by Bernard Blistène as a ‘great frieze of
unruly images.’

The exhibition also brings together recent paintings and watercolours from the 1980s, tracing the energy and movement that define Jungwirth’s practice.

As the artist reflects: ‘My pictorial reality is charged with passion, a language tied to the body, to dynamic movement. Painting is a matter of form, and then it receives a soul – through me.’

On view through 28 February 2026

Highlights from Art Basel Qatar 2026 ✨ From monumental gestures in the desert to intimate encounters on the fair floor, the inaugural edition unfolded across sites, scales and sensibilities.

•Presented as part of @artbasel Special Projects, Sumayya Vally’s (@sumi_v) ‘Assembly of Lovers’ (2026) brought architecture, ritual and collective presence into
conversation.
•Richard Serra’s East-West/West-East (2014) stretches across more than a kilometre of desert at Brouq Nature Reserve in Zekreet, anchoring the landscape with elemental force.
•At night, Jenny Holzer’s (@jennyholzerstudio) light projection ‘SONG’ illuminated the façade of @miaqatar, using poems by Mahmoud Darwish, the celebrated Palestinian poet, and Nujoom Alghanem (@nujoomalghanem), the acclaimed Emirati poet and
filmmaker.
•On the fair floor, Imran Qureshi’s (@imranqureshiartist) ‘Opening Word of This New Scripture’ was presented at Nature Morte’s booth. Further highlights included works by Philip Guston (@the_guston_foundation _) at @hauserwirth, and Olga de Amaral (@olgadeamaral) at @lisson_gallery.

‘Picasso, the Figure’ is now on view at Louvre Abu Dhabi (@louvreabudhabi), organized in collaboration with Musée Picasso Paris (@museepicassoparis) and France Muséums.

A landmark exhibition dedicated to Pablo Picasso, the presentation traces the artist’s evolving engagement with the human figure, from early Cubist experimentations to classical reconfigurations, surrealist distortions, and the expressive force of his late works.

💥🌞✨ Abu Dhabi Art delivered one of its most compelling editions yet — a fair that resonated both locally and internationally, marked by a heightened sense of curatorial intention, stronger gallery presentations, and a noticeable shift toward institutional-level ambition. As it prepares to take on its next chapter as Frieze Abu Dhabi, this year’s programme felt less like a transition and more like a statement moment for the region’s evolving cultural positioning.

From museum-calibre booths to considered solo presentations and thoughtful dialogues, this edition reinforced Abu Dhabi’s growing role as a serious node within the global art ecosystem.

A look at the highlights that stayed with us.
