✨ Artist Spotlight ✨

Meet April “Apeezy” Smith, a Detroit multidisciplinary artist, fashion designer, seamstress, rug maker, and creative director whose work beautifully blends storytelling, fashion, textiles, and community. As the founder of EVOLVE, April creates one of one garments, custom rugs, and functional art pieces that celebrate individuality, transformation, and self expression.

Inspired by her own journey navigating fashion as a plus size woman, her work centers empowerment and encourages people to embrace themselves fully and unapologetically. Through every piece she creates, April uses art as a tool for connection, healing, confidence, and evolution.

“I am moved to create by art’s transformative power. My passion is to empower individuals to express unique identities and embrace self love, especially through fashion and textile art.”

Beyond her artistry, April is deeply passionate about building creative spaces rooted in collaboration, growth, and community, believing creativity flourishes best when it is shared and celebrated together. 🖤✨

We are honored to feature Apeezy and EVOLVE as part of this year’s Liberation Link Up celebrating Black creativity, artistic expression, and liberation in Detroit.
