☆ an anachronism ☆

Long overdue post for the album I made on Siltbreeze Records! It can be found on the Siltbreeze Bandcamp and in select record stores in Philly and elsewhere. Produced and recorded by Robert Francisco, mastered by Joshua Stevenson, sleeve design by Raoul Tinybear. Many thanks to Tom Lax for making it happen and to everyone who has listened, shared, played on the radio, or hasn't listened but told me they were excited about it anyway.

New-In: One pleasure being longstanding fans of labels and artists alike involves tracking their surprises, how they evolve and refine through time. The great ones couple change with consistency, subtle through lines in support of what comes next.
And Philadelphia’s Siltbreeze offers a case in point. Though we sometimes talk about that label’s discography in periods or phases, over its 35+ years Siltbreeze has always pushed forward, while keeping one stubborn foot on the Ohio b/w Xpressway outré rock square.
Though in its most recent output/phase/period, Siltbreeze has sharpened its focus, leaning on sounds one might associate with 1981, and we aren’t speaking hyperbolically here. Please re: Siltbreeze’s sister label Zaius Tapes to hear echoes of early Cabaret Voltaire, Chris & Cosey, and other spare industrial/minimal synth experiments. N.B. We still have a copy of 1981’s Negative Reaction in stock, folks.
A long set-up for Philadelphia’s Annie Achron _Never Paradise_ Lp, a debut, at least for us, as there appears to be a prior tape.
The record is quite spare and dialed in, which Tom Lax suggests offers “a portal to what was being laid down in the salad days of Factory Benelux, 4AD, Some Bizarre & Mute. The goth scene had yet to ingest its Vegemite & the stench in the clubs of the industrial north was from the stale beer rather than MDMA induced vomit. Yes, THAT brief, Edenic window of time. ‘Never Paradise’ covers a lot of ground, everything from brooding atmospheric fugue’s to swooning dance floor vibrato.” And like the recent Omit _In/Sec_ Lp, this record offers dance music for those too self-conscious to dance, which is totally our mojo.
That brief Edenic window…
