“Ohne Titel / Untitled”—the new vibrant lithograph by André Butzer, is now available exclusively on @jrpeditions!
🔗 Make it yours, or contact art@jrp-editions.com
Surrounded by Mediterranean fruits, Butzer’s iconic figure of the Woman is the center of attention. With her radiant smile and cheerful serenity she appears amidst a bright red field of color as if fully dwelling in her own possibilities. In almost hopeless times, “Ohne Titel / Untitled” offers solace and, with delicate echoes of Modigliani, Balthus, and Morandi, the lithograph is most humanly sincere in its genuine presence, embodying joy and affection, shyness as much as confidence, and benevolence.

"I find myself after the long end of Pop Art. The readymade is destroyed. Two-thousand years of painting history continues. The image of the woman endures." – André Butzer
"Farben, Früchte, Bilder" is Butzer’s most personal book to date. For this lavishly designed volume, he has carefully chosen 135 paintings, created between 2021 and 2025. There is just one theme unfolding: his iconic figure of the Woman—first on her own, then surrounded by fruit. This allows for calm and composed viewing, which grows deeper and richer from image to image. The monograph also includes an extensive conversation of the artist with art historian Christian Malycha.

Where do they look, what do they see? “They are looking somewhere else,” says #andrebutzer
“…and we see them seeing. That matters more than where they are looking. They gaze at a place beyond reach that seems to lie outside the image or maybe within the painting. In other words, they gaze at their own inherent truth, the threshold. And we recognise ourselves in their vision, in their longing.”
