Since 2009, when my first film was selected at ECRANS Noirs, you’ve been more than a mentor—you became a father figure, a constant source of encouragement. Just two months ago, you drove all the way to my training venue in Yaoundé, simply to lift me up. That memory now feels like a final gift. My heart is broken, but your fire will forever burn in me.

Alex Ekubu — you left the stage far too soon. Your jovial spirit, your kindness, your laughter still echo in my mind. I replay our last phone call, the truth in your voice, the strength you carried even when I didn’t know it was goodbye. I’ll miss you, brother, more than words can hold.

Last Saturday, as the European Union day was being celebrated, I had the distinct honor of being specially invited and warmly acknowledged by His Excellency Jean-Marc Châtaigner, Ambassador of the European Union to Cameroon and Equatorial Guinea alongside his diplomatic colleagues. This recognition came in light of my role as a facilitator in a series of EU-organized workshops designed to inspire and empower young African filmmakers.

Among these initiatives, one of the most impactful has been smartphone filmmaking—an accessible entry point that has enabled countless aspiring creators to begin their cinematic journeys with confidence and ease. To witness their growth and passion has been both humbling and deeply rewarding.

It remains a privilege to contribute to this vision, and I am grateful for the appreciation shown toward my work as an African filmmaker committed to passing knowledge to the next generation.
