I drew up these candy corn waffles when I was building up my portfolio in search of an apprenticeship. Was so, so happy to get a chance to tattoo them!

Posted my Mayor from Nightmare Before Christmas on Friday and was able to tattoo it the very next day! On top of that, we did an Oogie Boogie bandaid above it that really just sealed the whole shin.

I was fortunate enough to see Wicked when it came to Chicago back in 2005 or so. I was in chorus and we knew for a year in advance that we were going to see this play. We got a new teacher and I thoroughly did not enjoy that, and was losing my interest in the class. I stuck it out for the field trip, though, and had a phenomenal time. Growing up watching the Wizard of Oz was one of my favorite memories, and now seeing Wicked and getting a new twist on the story and character’s identities felt so personal. It changed my life. I asked to quit from chorus the day after the field trip.

Twenty years later, I still cannot listen to Defying Gravity without tearing up. For anyone who feels beaten down, so small in this world, and like everyone is against them, you can too defy gravity. You too can achieve your dreams and goals with or without the support of friends, family, and strangers. When things get heavy, you can find the strength to keep going. It’s not always as easy as hopping on a broom and flying away. You may deal with backlash, you may lose friends, you may realize family didn’t have your best interests in mind. But you can choose your own path, believe in yourself and your values, and defy gravity.

Wicked was a cinematic masterpiece and I cannot wait to see part 2 next month. 🩷💚

Fun fact: I saw Lilo and Stitch in theatres and became obsessed. I also then became obsessed with Elvis and checked all the books out that I could at my elementary school library, watched his tv shows and movies, and listened to his greatest hits over and over. I was a cute kid.

Happy mother’s day to all. 💜💐🍃

Having lost my own mother when I was young, being a mom was all I wanted. Spend that time I missed with her, with my own. Give the love I felt from her, to my own.

Being a mom is my pride and joy, the hardest job, the most rewarding job. I would not trade it for anything. It will always come first, and I will forever advocate for fair treatment, love, and justice of parents and children everywhere. Being a mother has done nothing but continually help me grow into a more empathetic, compassionate, and patient individual.

This week was so lovely. This morning I was showered with gifts and cards that made me cry the happiest tears. I am beyond fortunate to have my family, and for them to know how much I love them is one of the best gifts of all. I think of all the mothers and children who aren’t as fortunate as myself and it hurts, but inspires me that much more to continually advocate and fight for all.

Remember to give yourself and your family patience. We are all going through things together and separate. Snuggle, tickle, and laugh as often as possible. Marvel at your creations. Put into them what you want to see in the world. Fight for a better life for your offspring, even when it seems futile. Hold each other longer, the weight of adulthood can wait. Know that even on the hardest days, it is all worth it in the end. Don’t compare yourself to others. Spend all the extra time that you can. Allow each minute to go by slowly.
