🚨 book alert 🚨

Beautiful Machine Woman Language has received very generous words of support from Bhanu Kapil, Eloisa Amezcua (@eloisaam), and Douglas Kearney ✨️✨️✨️

In 2016, I started writing Beautiful Machine Woman Language as a release/relief
against violent utterances I had to transcribe for my job. Anti-Blackness, misogyny, and homophobia dispatched through the technology of anonymity is one particular product of white supremacy. I was told that all data is objective. I had baby silver hair and tiny specs then.

Pre-order link in bio! It's available anywhere or elsewhere Oct 15

My first poetry reading of 2026 is Sat February 7 in Greenpoint (7pm at Sunview Acropolis). Fuck ICE and the apathy of white supremacy, racial capitalism, and profiteering institutions. Free Palestine, Sudan, and Congo. If you are complicit with genocide do not come to this reading or any poetry reading tbh

Alright, ladies. Be cool, don’t be all like uncool. Crossroads Series ‘25 | June 6-8

🟪 Curated by Pioneers Go East Collective and presented in partnership with Socrates Sculpture Park @socratespark

🟪 Catherine Chen Presents | At arm’s length, a disclosure @aluutte June 7 at 6pm

🟪 Choreography and Direction by Catherine Chen
Performance by Catherine Chen, Kristina Moore, and Ryan Pliss
Music by Kristina Moore
@plisstoferjones @__kolezanka__ @aluutte

🟪 “At arm’s length, a disclosure” reimagines a poetry reading as a ritualized series of gestures, actions, and sound-making depicting the making and masking of a performative dreamscape. Featuring excerpts from the artist’s debut poetry collection Beautiful Machine Woman Language (Noemi Press, 2023), “My Labors” absorbs a collective language of desire to explore the ways labor, affect, and cycles of repetition can alternately mediate and amplify our relationship with experiencing live performance. How is a reading disrupted or contained?

🟪 Catherine Chen is a multidisciplinary poet, performer, and author of the poetry collection Beautiful Language Woman Machine (Noemi Press, 2023). They have received fellowships and residencies from The Watermill Center, CultureHub, Theater Mitu, Lower Manhattan Cultural Council (Arts Center Residency 2021), Lambda Literary, and Poets House.

🟪 Location: Socrates Sculpture Park. 32-01 Vernon Blvd, Queens, NY 11106. The entrance is located at the intersection of Vernon Boulevard and Broadway.

Grief is historical and contemporary. Grief is not only all around us it is a living breathing body-silo within us. How do you tend to grief? How does colonial trauma store and inform grief? It is overwhelming to be a witness to the postcolonial appendages of capitalist greed which deprioritizes land and water sovereignty, estranging all living beings and creatures from a relationship to and with the earth. I want to be intimate with our collective grieving. Then make soup. Calling on ancestors. Reading prose like vibrations. I'll be emerging from hibernation to give my first reading of the year Monday 1/27 8pm! Come to @cherry.on.top.nyc where I will be sharing newer works developed during residency last year @watermillcenter and @padastudios let's get cozy yeah yeah

Next week, CultureHub NYC will welcome Resident Artists Catherine Chen and Georgios Cherouvim into our studio to experiment with uses of a pen plotter machine to explore the performative process of writing and the automation of labor. Their culminating performance, A Floating Grid, explores the liminal space between the human body and mechanical body.

Catherine Chen is a Brooklyn-based poet and performer. Georgios Cherouvim works with computer animation and code.
