LA theremin player and composer ALIA announces her debut album 𝑾𝒉𝒆𝒓𝒆 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑬𝒄𝒉𝒐𝒆𝒔 𝑩𝒍𝒐𝒐𝒎, out June 26th via @leavingrecords. An album marrying haunting, shimmering beauty with organic and natural textures.

The record was produced entirely by ALIA at home, where she also performed the theremin, kacapi, and synthesis, alongside field recordings from a multitude of locations. Opening single ‘Endless Love’ starts close and intimate, with soft voice, zither and electronic textures creating something warm and otherworldly.

“I wanted to showcase the hauntingly beautiful voice of the theremin as well as the intimate, melancholic sound of the kacapi, a Javanese zither,” writes ALIA. “I set them to a backdrop oflush pads I created on my Arturia Microfreak and Korg Minilogue along with lots of shimmering reverb to create ethereal, otherworldly soundscapes that are, at times, hypnotic.”

𝑾𝒉𝒆𝒓𝒆 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑬𝒄𝒉𝒐𝒆𝒔 𝑩𝒍𝒐𝒐𝒎 available 26th June via Leaving Records on vinyl and digital formats —> leavingrecords.com | aliamo.bandcamp.com

What a dream to perform this deep piece of music with my beautiful friend @nailah.hunter outside in the daylight, under a tree. Grateful and honored that @leavingrecords has not only released our collaboration to the world, but on stunningly-designed etched vinyl and marbled cassette. Thanks to all who have listened and supported! 🍃💚🍃

Another snippet from “The Seeker” - my project for the City of LA Master Artist Program. For this middle section, I used the microtuning function on my minilogue to create a drone sound in key with the microtones of the Nay, which is being played in the Arabic scale of hijaz.

Link in bio and stories for the full, 10-minute audiovisual piece featuring kecapi (Indonesian zither), theremin, darbuka, sagat (Egyptian finger cymbals) & nay (Egyptian flute).

New single ‘Crescent Sun’ by LA theremin player and composer ALIA is out now ahead of her debut album 𝑾𝒉𝒆𝒓𝒆 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑬𝒄𝒉𝒐𝒆𝒔 𝑩𝒍𝒐𝒐𝒎, out June 26th via @leavingrecords. An album that marries haunting, shimmering beauty with organic and natural textures.

The record was produced entirely by ALIA at home, where she also performed the theremin, kacapi, and synthesis, alongside field recordings from a multitude of locations. 𝑾𝒉𝒆𝒓𝒆 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑬𝒄𝒉𝒐𝒆𝒔 𝑩𝒍𝒐𝒐𝒎 is a unique meeting point of geographies, influences, creative practices, and mentors.

‘Crescent Sun’ is a darker track, led with shadowy programmed bass synthesis and arpeggiated zither plucks to accompany the Levantine imagery of its title.
