when dior asked me to shoot Marion Cotillard in 2015 i was thinking a lot about her role as Joan of Arc. Marion had performed with the New York Philharmonic that year (2015) portraying Joan of Arc in the oratorio Jeanne d’Arc au Bûcher and i really wanted to incorporate that iconic imagery into the shoot. i had the idea to put her in the flames metaphorically and literally but in the safest way possible. she was inches away from the flames the entire shoot. Marion is such a force who also happens to be a warm and wonderful person.

ALEX PRAGER ECHOES OF DISSONANCE

TAO ART is delighted to present 𝘌𝘤𝘩𝘰𝘦𝘴 𝘰𝘧 𝘋𝘪𝘴𝘴𝘰𝘯𝘢𝘯𝘤𝘦, an exhibition bringing together a selection of works by Los Angeles-based artist and filmmaker Alex Prager. This marks Prager’s first solo exhibition in Taiwan, presented in collaboration with Lehmann Maupin (@lehmannmaupin), opening on March 7, 2026.

This exhibition includes her recent short film 𝘙𝘶𝘯, featuring Katherine Waterston. Part catastrophe, part tragicomedy, the film transforms the urban landscape into a large-scale pinball machine, precisely choreographed and meticulously staged. Referencing the aesthetics of old Hollywood, a physical, almost slapstick narrative takes shape; the vulnerabilities of the human body and the eccentricities of costume become comedic and charming.

Alex Prager’s work is often as visually stunning as it is unsettling, known for its masterfully staged moments of suspense and fabricated, stylised imagery. 𝘌𝘤𝘩𝘰𝘦𝘴 𝘰𝘧 𝘋𝘪𝘴𝘴𝘰𝘯𝘢𝘯𝘤𝘦 illuminates Prager’s hypersensitivity to the tension between artifice and reality, exploring the possibilities inherent in subtle shifts of perception.

TAO ART 欣然呈現「Echoes of Dissonance」，展出洛杉磯藝術家暨電影導演艾莉克絲．普拉格 (@alexprager) 的一系列精選作品。本展為普拉格於台灣的首次個展，與立木畫廊 (@lehmannmaupin) 合作呈現，將於 2026 年 3 月 7 日開幕。

本次展覽亦展出她近期的短片作品《Run》，由凱薩琳．華特斯頓 (Katherine Waterston) 擔綱演出。在這部帶有災難元素、亦頗具黑色喜劇氣質的影片中，普拉格以經過精準編排與細緻調度的場面，將小鎮景觀轉化為一座巨型彈珠台。《Run》不僅挪用古典好萊塢電影的視覺美學，也透過近乎鬧劇式的肢體語言，使人類身體的脆弱性與誇張怪誕的服裝造型顯得既滑稽又迷人。

On the miniature set of DreamQuil built by the warren brothers @blindbeaglevfx who are 3rd generation miniature makers and special effects craftsmen.

Their work is always at the highest level and epitomizes movie magic. Miniatures and in camera practical effects are synonymous with my process and are the heart of much of my world building.

For me, it was vital to work practically for DreamQuil given the current fascination with automated technologies what you see isn’t always what it appears to be.

i was thinking about Hopper and Lynch and the women who built this city; a city created out of dreams, myth, the mystical and unorthodox social thought. there was something that brought to mind a sort of ritual taking place. i wanted to interpret a classic LA party that stirred up that same feeling.
