Bryan Ali Sanchez works as a painter and storyteller intricately captures working-class experiences of journey, survival, and adversity. Hailing from San Diego’s Barrio Logan neighborhood and deeply connected to Mexico, he possesses a distinct perspective that enables him to authentically depict the humanity and essence of his subjects. By weaving personal and communal narratives from places like la Frontera, el rancho, beyond and in between, Bryan’s work transcends boundaries, offering a glimpse into spaces both familiar and unknown.
Through his direct and evocative brushstrokes, Bryan narrates concrete stories while allowing room for movement, diverse possibilities, and unfolding tales. The vibrant colors in his compositions lend a cinematic and suspenseful quality that works like a soundtrack to the urgency and emotion of the moments he paints. Through his storytelling and use of symbolism, he elevates his art beyond visual depiction, inviting viewers to delve into the psychology and experiences of his subjects. Bryan’s work, while rooted in the tradition of representational oil painting, serves as a contemporary reflection, shedding light on pressing realities, issues, and narratives of our time.

“Guidance” is on view starting today with regular hours. The gallery will host a special performance with Monica Mirabile and Trinity Vigorsky next Friday, March 1st. Photos by @nijmeddin
Mirabile’s rigorous and multifaceted practice, which includes performance, painting and sculpture, captures the complex sensations held within and released by the body. Completed in 2024 while the artist listened to recordings of people recounting near-death experiences, this new body of work grew from a period of grief as an investigation into the invisible forces that can be sensed in the interstitial space between life and the afterlife. Mirabile’s paintings place women into eerie oceanic landscapes where the horizons are bleak and dark, and spirits support a sense of movement. Harsh-edged palettes are juxtaposed with scenes of care and rebirth, underscoring the series with a profound sense of optimism.
