For four decades, Augusto Yanacopulos has turned “sacred madness” into a creative method. Co-founder of Aguijón Theater Company (1989), his work moves fluidly between stage, canvas, myth and everyday reality.

This retrospective brings together his easel paintings of mythological hybrids, nude figures in dreamlike landscapes, and poetic realities alongside documentation of his most celebrated stage designs.

Yanacopulos celebrates the body in metamorphosis, Latin cultural memory, and the transformative power of art in Spanish. This exhibit is an invitation to dream through a body of work challenging imagination and conceptual borders.

These artists utilize observation of the physical world and incorporate it with imaginative interventions of the mind to create images composed by handmarking (literally the act of drawing a stylus or material across a surface). The comics artists are being recruited worldwide from Korea, Europe, and other international locales to present their work with Chicago artists in our gallery and published in our Comics anthology (journal #6) that spans audiences across all languages and cultures.

The drop-in figure drawing sessions feature models with a variety of body types, gender presentations, ethnicities, size, age and more, so come draw with us!

Arrive early to get a good seat, drawing horse or easel. We open at 6:30pm.

No reservations needed for this in-person informal drawing session.
