We develop, innovate, produce and deliver products for the professional built environment 🌱🌎

Today is Biological Diversity Day - something we at a:gain want to take a moment to highlight and reflect on.
Because as we go about our days, it’s easy to forget the very foundation of life as we know it - nature’s biological diversity.
Biological diversity keeps our ecosystems healthy and in balance. It’s the reason we have beautiful green surroundings, clean water, food, and access to the materials we use to build our civilizations.
❕ Here’s the situation: nature is under serious pressure - and the construction industry is responsible for nearly 30% of global biodiversity loss (source: UK Green Building Council*).
A big part of the problem is our approach to resource use - following a linear model of “take, make, use, dispose”. Because when we source vast amounts of virgin materials, such as wood and minerals, it drives habitat loss and puts ecosystems out of balance.
This is an approach to building we can no longer afford.
That’s why one of the principles that guide our work at a:gain is to protect biodiversity off-site. We do it by replacing virgin extraction with secondary resources already at hand. Through industry partnerships, we source discarded materials from regular production and remanufacture them into new building products.
This shift in material sourcing adds up - every square meter of more circular materials reduces the industry's reliance on extraction of virgin resources.
Biological Diversity Day reminds us that nature really is the foundation of everything we do and the environments we live in - and that it’s time we take action to protect it.
🧠 What do you consider when choosing building materials?

Behind-the-scenes: Oiling new samples of Hjælmø End-Grain Flooring
High-traffic spaces such as schools, workplaces, and public buildings require a flooring that can handle intensive use - but they should also feel good to be in, with surfaces that are both robust and visually warm.
Our end-grain flooring Hjælmø offers both durability and design possibilities. Cutting the wood across the grain creates a surface that is resistant to wear, while also revealing the wood’s natural rings and texture - resulting in a strong and visually expressive floor.
The wooden blocks can be laid in different patterns and surface-treated to fit the aesthetic of any project - choose a clear oil or lacquer to keep the wood’s natural expression, or create a lighter feel with white versions.
Aside from its lively expression, Hjælmø also supports projects by a reduced CO₂e-emission. The flooring is made from offcuts sourced from Danish window frame production - saving 11 kg of material per m² installed and reducing emissions by up to 76% compared to similar virgin alternatives.*
✨ See the grain of a Hjælmø flooring come alive as August and Sofie oil new samples, and explore the different surface treatments and expressions on our website!

Kofoeds Skole - building with circular ambitions
At Kofoeds Skole, new buildings are taking shape, developed with respect for the existing architecture and its qualities. The new additions are inspired by the school’s signature architectural style, continuing its characteristic rounded structures in the new design.
The project is driven by a clear ambition to reduce resource consumption. Active choices have been made to use reused, remanufactured, and recycled materials wherever possible, with wood playing a central role throughout the construction.
The construction is being carried out by @logikogco , who share the ambition to move the building sector in a more responsible direction.
As part of the project, a:gain has delivered Bronsø - a thermowood facade cladding made from discarded materials.
The construction is ongoing and is expected to be completed during the summer 2026.

A wooden facade brings an organic expression to any project- our thermo wood cladding Bronsø also brings a 69% reduction in CO₂e emissions (calculations based on EPD*), as it is made from pine discarded during regular production, saving 7.74 kg of wood per m².
🔨 When Bronsø is installed, it starts with a deep golden-brown tone. As a living material, the cladding then undergoes a natural patination process, developing a silver-grey surface.
⏳ The patination process typically begins within 3-6 months of installation, depending on factors such as UV exposure, orientation, and local climate.
The final silvery-grey tone is a natural result of these conditions in combination with the wood’s living character.
If you wish to maintain the warm brown appearance, a natural wood protection with UV filter can be applied before or shortly after installation. Regardless of your preference in colour, this natural weathering is part of the wood’s character - meaning the cladding’s performance and durability remain the same.
Patina is simply a natural expression of the material we’re working with, and a reminder that it’s alive. 🌱

📐 Classic floor patterns reimagined through mixes of wood and finish
With our Funderø Parquet, classic pattern options with a twist, create a consistent surface, allowing for defined mixes of wood species and surface treatments.
These mixes in wood and finish are a reflection of the floor's material sourcing. Funderø is manufactured from discarded hardwood boards set aside during Danish parquet production because of visual variations - still providing full performance and durability.
♻ By saving these resources, Funderø offers approximately 77% lower CO₂e emissions compared with similar virgin products, based on EPDs*.
The floor can be laid in our different patterns, including banded, crooked herring, and a 90's layout, offering flexibility in both design and expression.
🔹 Banded - The pattern runs in one direction with alternating staggering (129 mm / 450 mm), giving the boards a paired expression that still reads as one surface.
🔹 Crooked herring - A modern version of the traditional herringbone floor, where planks laid in an uneven pattern create a dynamic surface that shifts depending on the viewer's angle.
🔹 90's - Two board strips are rotated 90 degrees and set in a contrasting wood and finish, resulting in a subtle woven effect.
The patterns are offered in defined wood species - oak/ash, oak/oak and beech/maple - and mixed surface finishes, adding depth and rhythm to the spaces it helps shape.
That’s the straightforward approach behind a Funderø parquet: a consistent expression combined with flexible application.
👉 Explore the different patterns and see how Funderø shape projects through the link in our bio!

Why working with natural variation is key to more sustainable construction - hear Project Advisor Johannes Greisen break it down. 💡
When you walk through nature, does it bother you that flowers vary in colour or that trees don’t grow in parallel lines?
Probably not. Because that variation is what makes nature so beautiful 🌳
In construction, working with organic materials like wood puts pressure on several qualities of the material as part of a building element. Naturally, some materials don’t meet the requirements and have to be sorted out.
And rightfully so - the built environment must be safe for its users and stand the test of time, with fully managable risks and predictable performance.
❕ But there’s an issue. Today, a substantial amount of material is discarded during production for reasons unrelated to functionality - but because of visual appearance. As a society we have decided that we don't want knots and cracks that naturally appear in wood to be visible. This means perfectly useful material goes to waste in an industry that can’t afford extensive harvesting of new resources.
At a:gain, we embrace natural characteristics such as knots and colour variations. We remanufacture materials that are discarded because of purely visual reasons, into new building products - with the same performance and guarantees as conventional alternatives.
By saving these materials, we create building solutions that:
🔹 Save resources
🔹 Reduce emissions
🔹 Reduce waste
🔹 Embrace natural variation
This way, our products support circular construction while bringing a unique, lively appearance to every space they shape - all thanks to natural variation.

📐 Sustainable design in action - DEKO installing Tystø glass wall partition
456 m² of our Tystø glass wall partition system is now in place at Jeudan’s new office project at Østerbrogade 125.
🏗 Throughout the project, we joined the professionals from DEKO to capture the production and installation process of Tystø, from start to finished glass wall.
The Tystø system is possible thanks to our partnership with DEKO - the company bringing over 45 years of expertise within indoor partition solutions. Together we developed Tystø - an indoor partition system made from 100% discarded pine and reclaimed glass.
🔹 Cutting emissions by 73% compared to similar virgin solutions (read more at again.dk/sustainability)
🔹 Designed to your project's specified dimensions and needs
🔹 Professional assembly on-site
