BMCM+AC and the Asheville Symphony Orchestra are excited to present THREE concerts in October! Read on to learn more...

First: On Tuesday, October 21st at 7PM, the Asheville Symphony Orchestra's String Quartet & Percussion Quartet will present a chamber concert featuring the music of John Cage, Lou Harrison, Arnold Schoenberg, and Amy Williams. Composer Amy Williams will join us as a guest, and will play excerpts from John Cage's "Sonatas and Interludes" for prepared piano. This program will highlight music that reshaped 20th-century sound and celebrates the experimental spirit of Black Mountain College, and will take place in the upstairs gallery of BMCM+AC in downtown Asheville.

The following Saturday, October 25th, the Symphony will perform "CONVERGENCE" in the sanctuary at First Baptist Church of Asheville as a part of their Masterworks Concert series. "CONVERGENCE" celebrates the history of BMC by tracing a journey from European romanticism to American avant-garde with Brahms’s mountain-inspired Second Symphony, Bartók’s ethereal Viola Concerto (written in part during his time in Asheville), and more alongside groundbreaking works by John Cage that emerged from BMC, a transformative haven for creatives in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Join us at First Baptist Church for the 2pm showtime or 8pm showtime!

You can purchase tickets for the Oct 21st Chamber Evening at BMCM+AC through the museum's website, and tickets for CONVERGENCE at FBC are sold through the Asheville Symphony Orchestra.

It was a joy to play with my dear friend and collaborator @danielpescamusic on Monday! We premiered wonderful new pieces by @acwcomposer, @katiecomposes, and Anna-Louise Walton, and premiered @mantrumpet's "Pilgrimage" (and found out at intermission that he was a finalist for the Pulitzer this year 🤩)!
.
I want to give a big shoutout to @illinoisbassoons for another great year. It's always a good sign when there is a gaggle of bassoonists checking out the scores afterward :)
.
Thank you to MillerCom and @illinoismusic for bringing Amy to campus! Now off to record later this month...!
