Welcome back to another “Content Creation On The Clock”, when I share with you my favorite latest and greatest flips, remixes and original tracks while clocked in (or on my way into being clocked in) to one of my many places of employment, giving you somewhere dope to temporarily stop and vibe on your current doomscrolling journey!

Now, I am a student of the Ivy League School of J Dilla/Jay Dee, and while I have celebrated him every February (and anytime else I choose openly, any month, day or time), this month I was a little slow to sound the Dilla Siren. Then, I remembered this project I dropped in honor of him a few years back, maybe one of my top 5 favorite releases of mine to date.

I’ll let the music speak for itself, but if I will say one thing, it’s this: Dilla, to me, is embedded into the DNA of my music and my approach to music production, and I believe he is the epochal incarnation of black music at its best, its rawest, and finest, and without him, we would not have maintained the soul or the ethos of modern day music production in hip hop and electronic music in general. In that way, I wanted to honor him in a way that was the most authentic and forward thinking, yet timeless and classic as possible, and “Dilla’s House” for me is that attempt to do so.

Long live Dilla, and thank you eternally, Jay Dee 🤟🏽…

Shoutout to LAZ for keeping a brotha employed over the years whenever he needed a gig, but if I’m gonna stand out here freezing my ass off at 5:30 in the morning directing traffic, I might as well get a little light content work off in the process!

I had to remix one of my favorite @chancetherapper tracks as of late, “The Negro Problem”, off his latest album, “STAR LINE”, featuring not just one, but two of my favorite all-time samples, the “King of Pop “Micheal Jackson’s “Human Nature” and famously MF DOOM (RIP ✊🏽) flipped sample of the “BET on Jazz - Impressions” intro (King Geedorah’s “Next Levels, AKA “Arrow Root” from his Special Herbs anthology).

This is a special one for me, not just because the original is incredible and displays incredible sentiment and eludes to a particular ordeal all black and brown folks face across the spectrum of the underserved and marginalized experience, but because it gave me a chance to place these two samples in the perfect context alongside a perfectly complemented message: everyday, everywhere, we are overlooked and underrepresented, and while it may surprise you? This is the norm, everyday life for some of us, maybe all of us at some level, whether you realize it or not…

Because if I’ve learned anything from having ADHD, just like having 1 job isn’t enough for most people living in America, doing just 1 thing at at time at work isn’t enough for me to function at work!

Shoutout to @leonthomas 2x, had this one stuck in my head since it dropped, and while it’s not even CLOSE to his best work to date, it’s one of the hits I felt had the best remix potential, so I layered it atop a jazzy, noir-like uptempo groove, some 4 to the floor jazz house, if you will. Welcome to the newest edition of “Content Creation On The Clock”, where I share with you my latest and greatest remixes, flips, edits and original tracks, delivering you creative content while on the clock for you to scroll up to! I’ll admit, my editing and composition skills need work, but you see the vision, though, right? (No, the vision is not visioning here, we shoot our shot anyway 👉🏽)

This one’s somewhere between a flip and a bootleg, took a track from one of the jazziest video game OSTs ever, Gran Turismo (5, I believe?), and flipped the standout vocal from Bizarre Inc’s “I’m Gonna Get You” and turned them into what I believe is more of a “Rally House” track? Which makes sense in context given the samples, but maybe it’s more old school UK Garage?? I love the insane variety of dance music that exists, especially in house music, but I’m positive these aren’t the accurate descriptors here, haha… /// #abjo #rallyhouse #granturismo #bizarreinc

Big ups to the cashier working at that ARCO yellin’ words of affirmation to everyone pumping gas, I needed that at 4 in the morning still tryna affirm why I was up this early again (oh yeah, poverty onset by disproportionate wage allocations in a climate where being over-qualified handicaps your hiring prospects. duh.)

Another one from @chancetherapper’s “STAR LINE”, the single “RIDE”, which I put up against the sample from FORCE OF NATURE’s “Just Forget” off the Samurai Champloo OST, then flipped it into a club remix with a bit of bailé funk influence. I’m on my uptempo vibe lately, and I have a deep appreciation for all forms of club and dance music, and I love blending rap and R&B into as many influences make sense for a track.
