Thank you @colbert @colbertlateshow for one of the funniest interviews I ever had. You will be missed, but I have no doubt we will see you again.

When I first met @aasif, on one of our early dates, he told me a story about how when he started on The Daily Show he went to meet with @colbert to get advice. He still remembered, almost 9 years later, exactly the advice Stephen gave him. Said it was the best he ever got. Later, after we got married, I had the lovely pleasure of meeting Stephen and his wife Evie at a party with Aasif, and Evie and I got to talking about Aasif and my's early courtship. I told her about taking Aasif to a very serious gala dinner, where he proceeded to be the only person to get out on the dance floor and insisted on dancing "like Jeff Goldblum." You had to be there. I was mortified at the time, but also cracking up. And she said, "you knew then, right? You knew that if you stayed with this man, you would spend the rest of your life knowing that he wouldn't resist going for the laugh." I did indeed, I replied. And then she said, "And you made the right choice, because you will for sure will sure get embarrassed again, but it will be a great time." As Stephen Colbert signed off, we didn't just lose one of the great voices in the culture, or one of the best to ever do it, or the collective faith that the First Amendment will triumph over corporate cowardice. We also lost a model on television of a person who went for the laugh, for sure, but also humanity, decency and conviction. Who wasn't afraid to say his wife was his favorite smell, embarrassing her, but SWOON. And, maybe most fundamentally, we lost a hell of a great time.
