🌹🌳🫂 // A Forest Grows Its Trees Within Your Embrace (I Found You Waiting Inside the Carpel of a Quiet Poppy) - I started painting this work during the third week of the war, and subconsciously, I found myself painting a shelter, a space of comfort, and a return to the self. My shelter has always been a forest, a forest in Sakarya’s mountains that I hike through almost every year. This year, especially during spring, I wasn’t able to be there. Usually, it is filled with poppies, oak trees, and a presence I can never fully describe beyond memory and feeling. I remember its scent, the stillness of it, and the way I exist within it so effortlessly. Whenever I close my eyes, I find myself there again. This forest has lived within my work for years and has inspired previous exhibitions and a solo presentation in which I painted two lovers within this very landscape. This time, however, I returned to it purely through memory, almost as if rebuilding a place of protection for myself from within.

Every spring, I usually find a poppy during a hike in the mountains of Sakarya, and this year I was not able to go. I kept yearning to see a poppy, and I remembered a field of them on a mountain top overlooking a lake, a place I arrived at only by getting lost from the hiking tracks. This is for the field of poppies that found me when I least expected them.
