Hello from home!

Been running around town today getting ready for this show next Wednesday. A Strange Bird (in trio formation) will be opening for Gretta Seabird and Amy Laybourn at Sunset Tavern for an evening of femme-fronted folk music.

In addition to an evening of stellar music, @stevie.gamma.rae and I will be assembling 100 whistle kits over the next few days that will be available at the show for free at the merch table.

Carrying a whistle and knowing how and when and why to use it is one super simple way we can be prepared to take action against ICE in our communities.

Kits will include a whistle, the codes to use them and a wellspring of information on what you can do to keep your community safe all condensed into a singular super cute bookmark.

Come thru, get a whistle, get educated cuz baby ima keep saying it:

we're all we've got.

My first Folk Alliance was in Kansas City in 2024. I came to conference fresh from my fathers funeral and quite frankly I was a mess.

Yet and still...

I showed up. I sang my soul raw, and I experienced my first Black American Music Summit. I met, for the first time in my life, so many other black folks making music in white-dominated genres. I made friends that stayed friends and became my community.

It gives me supreme joy to be sharing my tunes in the @bamusicmvt room tonight on the first offical day of FAI26.
