Today, the Ladies of LADY take Sundance 2026! 🥳✨🎬

Thank you sweet Jesus 🥹❤️

Today is the World Premiere of LADY at the Sundance Film Festival, and even thought we couldn’t get to be there physically, my heart is so full that the world finally gets to see the magic that we made.

This journey began in 2023 and being here today feels like a dream come true fr. Words can’t express how proud I am to be a part of such a beautiful story about freedom and true sisterhood.

I know that younger me is kicking her feet right now and she is so incredibly proud of the woman we are becoming because what do you mean we’re on the screens at Sundanceeeeeee 🥺❤️

Huge congratulations to my Queens and the entire team who poured their hearts into this. We really did that! 🥂🔥

Thank you to our exceptional writer and director, you truly are an actor’s director @theolivenwosu @lagosfilmgirl ❤️

Thank you to the incredible producers, funders and EPs

A week ago, their phones buzzed as they learned that they had won the Special Jury Award for Acting Ensemble at the just-concluded Sundance.

The lead actress Jessica Gabriel’s Ujah was stuck in Lagos traffic. Her co-stars, Amanda Oruh was at home, working on press materials; and Tinuade Jemiseye was supporting a friend at a cinema meet-and-greet in Lekki.

Where they should have been was Utah, USA, on one of the biggest nights of their careers. They were hindered by visa denial, a familiar mobility barrier for African creatives on the global stage.

“As much as you try to ignore it, politics and governance will affect everybody — rich or poor, big or small, talented or not talented,” Oruh tells WKMUp, during a conversation with the 3 actors.

Their director, @olivenwosu, made sure they weren’t left out. From the world premiere onward, she carried them along every step of the Sundance journey, sharing updates, photos, and videos, the same care and intentionality she brought to the set itself.

In the 2-hour virtual conversation with Ujah, Oruh and Jemiseye, they discuss their recent global recognition, visa exclusion, and the realities of working in Nollywood.

How do you bury a child that is still alive?

Odindi omo?!!

Wrote this piece one night when I couldn’t sleep and my mind was wandering. My mind had wandered to grief and what it might feel like to lose a child so I put pen to paper because I’m an actor and acting allows us to feel the things that we’ve never felt before and the things that we hope to never feel.
