Sujin Lim's Sunroom exhibition "Memories in Red" has been included in Hyperallergic's Spring 2026 New York Art Guide. Thank you @hyperallergic!

"Lim’s takeover of one of Wave Hill’s sun-soaked galleries is a ruddy, dreamy vision that blends the lush gardens outside with the one depicted on the walls, and even one taking shape in your mind. The show’s defining red pigment was extracted from a particular rose whose journey mirrors that of the artist’s family, traveling from the shorelines of Yeongheung Island in South Korea, where her father was born, to the Hudson River, where this work unfolds."

Sujin Lim’s site-specific mural, painted in clay sourced from Yeongheungdo Island, connects the textures and architectural memory of Smack Mellon with the island in South Korea where her father grew up, which also features in her film.

The film shows Lim painting on canvases staged over the post-industrial ruins of Yeongheungdo, rewilding the landscape with the help of her father's memories. Layered with the wall paintings, Lim’s work traverses between the psychological and ecological residues of post-industrial landscapes.

Sujin Lim, Landscape Painting, 2019, HD Single Channel Video (31:40 min.) and wall painting with mud from Young Heung Island, 2025.

“Remains to be seen," curated by Pallavi Surana (@pallavisuranaa), is on view through July 27.

“Remains to be Seen”, curated by Pallavi Surana @pallavisuranaa, will be featured at Smack Mellon on June 14! Hope to see you there! :)

----------------------------
Posted @withregram@smackmellon Announcing “Remains to be seen,” our 2025 emerging artist summer group exhibition guest curated by Pallavi Surana! Opening Sat. June 14, 6-8PM.

Featuring artists: Maia Chao & Fred Schmidt-Arenales, Yusuf Demirors, S. Emsaki, Sujin Lim, Jessica Maffia, Lucas Odahara, Yunfei Ren, Julia Standovar and Merry Sun.

The exhibition brings together nine artists whose practices probe the afterlives of waste in relation to memory, ecology, consumerism, and identity. Through sound, sculpture, video, and ritual, the artists ask how we might engage waste not only as residue, but as witness. The exhibition unfolds across three thematic zones—absurdity and system failure, material and ecological memory, and ritual materiality—guiding visitors through overlapping constellations of rupture, residue, and renewal.

Posted @withregram@iscp_nyc “No landscape is ever neutral. Each one has multiple layers of history, interpretation, and importance. ‘The Land, Dark and Muddy’ is about unearthing the social and political contexts embedded in the landscape and reinterpreting them by posing the following questions: Who has the authority to reshape a landscape? Who are the people affected by those changes?”

Opening tomorrow, October 22, from 6–8pm at ISCP, ‘The Land, Dark and Muddy’ features an immersive installation by Sujin Lim that reflects on a landscape transformed by industrial and commercial development.

Anchored by two large-scale wall murals, the exhibition is part of Lim’s ongoing research into the rapidly changing environment of Yeongheung, a remote fishing island in Incheon, South Korea, where her father grew up. Over the past 30 years, the island has undergone dramatic environmental changes due to development and shifting tidelines, stark signs of climate change.

Lim reimagines the lost landscape through two wall paintings created with mud from Yeongheung, stenciled text from a conversation with her father, and a video of her painting performance. In ‘Landscape Painting’ (2019), Lim places a large canvas in front of the scene she portrays, obscuring modern construction and infrastructure to reimagine the island’s original landscape, as recalled by her father and other residents. Alluding to the tradition of landscape painting, Lim’s work poignantly captures a seaside that now only exists in memory.

My solo exhibition, “The Land, Dark and Muddy,” opens next Tuesday, October 22nd, at the ISCP in New York. Please stop by between 6 and 8 p.m. to see my new installation.

Posted @withregram@iscp_nyc The International Studio & Curatorial Program (ISCP) is pleased to present ‘Sujin Lim: The Land, Dark and Muddy,’ a solo exhibition by Sujin Lim (@_sujinlim) that offers a poetic tribute to what has been lost and what still remains.

Join us for the Opening Reception on Tuesday, October 22, from 6–8pm.

Anchored by two large-scale wall murals, ‘The Land, Dark and Muddy’ extends from the artist’s ongoing research on the rapidly changing environment of the remote fishing island of Yeongheung in Incheon, South Korea, where her father grew up. Over the past 30 years, Yeongheung Island has experienced dramatic environmental changes due to development and shifting tidelines, markers of climate change. A 1994 tide embankment increased water flow, wiping out marine habitats, while a bridge built for a power plant polluted the sea and altered the landscape.

Lim reimagines the lost land through two wall paintings made with mud from Yeongheung, stenciled text of a conversation with her father, and a video of her painting performance. In ‘Landscape Painting’ (2019), Lim positions a large canvas in front of the site she depicts, allowing her to obscure the island’s modern construction and infrastructure and superimpose the original scenery, as recollected by her father and other residents. Playfully alluding to the landscape painting tradition, Lim’s compositions poignantly capture a seaside that now only exists in memory.
