My father is a feminist, he just doesn’t know it. A thing I say to describe my father… is now a little ad film for Tanishq. And so I did what I know best, I gave little bits of my father and little bits of me to this little film for us, made so easy for me to direct because of @probableena and her writing.
A gang of ace women got together to make a Father’s Day film. Can you tell? Writer, EP, LP, Director, 1st AC, the entire AD team, Art, Costume, Casting, Brand team headed by women, Agency headed by women, I meaaan - Yes. (Thora post mein push karna padega next) and all the men on the team? The sweetest, kindest, nicest, most tender.
Basically team of my dreams meets cast of my dreams. I got lucky.
So here is a little team edit, same same but a little more.

Here is the Director’s Cut.
My post team stayed up a few extra nights and some early mornings to put together a film that is honestly the same but different. It’s a little bit more of this. Not as much of that. But it’s still all heart.
This is for my heart.
From my heart. To yours.
With love.

I bought my first jeans with maa and maa bought her’s… with me. Her first short hair haircut - me. First cocktail - me. First dress - me. First Japanese meal that she absolutely did not like - also me. And me? All my firsts are because of maa. And all my nexts for maa. 🤍
My maa came from a small world, but she raised me to believe the big world could be mine. And somewhere along the way, I started trying just as hard to make sure she gets to live in that world too. To make sure the little girl in her keeps dancing forever.
And so, this film, is so personal. To me, and to everyone who made it. And somehow, against the madness of saying yes, shooting and delivering the film - all in 8 days - I got to live my dream once again. I did it with and because of the most incredible crew, cast and friends.
I don’t know how to fully express my gratitude to the people who made this film, to the mums who raised them, to my mum, and to the universe for making THIS my job. The coolest gig in the world - where we get to take pieces of our hearts and share them with people to hold, to laugh, to cry and to feel with.
The film has found so much love already but here’s a litttttttle longer cut of a film about the litttttttle girls our mothers still are. 🤍
Happy Mother’s Day babies. For @districtupdates with -

I’ve been sitting on some of my films this year- mostly because my inner critic decided to become the main character. We’re retiring her. We gonna reset, reclaim, be a little narcissistic again.🪭 Starting with this one for Asus. Because apparently, I can do this too (who knew?!)
I could do this because of cool people who can make cool things and cool team happen -

can I always, like forever, just tell love stories? can I spend my time screeching and screaming and aww-ing and melting and dancing and being… in love, around love… for love? because there is nothing, nothing else I’d rather do… than get together with beautiful, mad people and very seriously, very foolishly believe in the most magical thing the world has to offer - love.
And on this one, we had people with big beating hearts. the kind that loves and cares, that makes work feel safe & stories feel held. Client, agency, cast & crew.
this film has all their hearts in it and I feel very very lucky ~

Film sets are full of unsung heroes — the ones you rarely see, but can’t make a film without. Here’s Ria Singh’s beautiful tribute to the people that always have her back.
“When I’m caught in the whirlwind of creatives, there are a hundred problems that never reach me — not because they don’t exist, but because someone fixed them before the chaos touched the set. Because someone sat and made a master breakdown, someone dealt with difficult HODs and actors, someone coordinated juniors and their costumes, someone made sure everyone had every requirement and followed up on them, someone made sense of a mammoth shoot order and somehow fit it in a possible schedule (including lunch), someone took care of the action props, someone thought way ahead and thought for us: “There’s a hand shot, should we paint her nail?”, “Shouldn’t the camera be on the left shoulder, Ria?”, or “I think this is an axis jump.” Those “someones” are the people in the direction team.
A film’s beating heart.
So much of who I am comes from my past. I was once on that side — a wide-eyed, exhausted DA, doing ten things at once, wondering if the director even knew how much it took to hold their world together. Honestly sometimes when the random-est action prop I randomly wrote in a random script draft shows up on set, those times, I know. Now I know.
So this is my thank you: to the unsung young ones, the seasoned ones, the future Directors and Producers and Chiefs, the women and the girls carving out their own space. Thank you for being the spine of every set. “
Who are your spines? Tag them and let them know!

She cute but badass. She’d beat your ass. *makes a fist and shows ya*. I had been vainly sad about my face. About a possible scar, days of no sun I’d have to go through, about the scarfs and caps and bandaids and masks and steri strips and silicon sheets, about all my photos that won’t look like me, about how I keep hurting myself, falling, tripping, blacking out. But it’s been sometime and although I know in some more time this will be in the past - I like this version of me. I like myself. The version that went to work even even when she was told not to (stupid bitch), the version that did not stop taking selfies, the version that stopped cursing the universe (eventually), the version that feels good in her skin. It took so long to get here, and a stupid fall from grace cannot undo my therapist’s hard, hard, hard work. 😭
