luke shannon
generative artist using code and machines

Heft at Paris Photo 2025
Heft is thrilled to return to Paris Photo, presenting a new curatorial vision that celebrates artists with new visions for image making through systems, artificial intelligence, and technological processes.
Our booth brings together generative portraits, coded landscapes, and data-driven experiments — a dialogue between pioneers and emerging voices shaping the future of the photographic image. From Nancy Burson’s seminal explorations of identity to the collaborative works of Edward Burtynsky & Alkan Avcıoğlu, and the surreal abstractions of Katie Morris, the exhibition captures a moment of transformation in the medium.
Luke Shannon’s plotter-scanner will also be active throughout the fair, with private commissions available on-site. Visitors are invited to stop by, experience the process, or inquire via DM.
The full catalog is available online — link in bio.

Replacement Character by @_lukeshannon transformed HEFT into a charged space of light, sound, and shared attention!
Over 120 guests joined us for an evening that blurred lecture, performance, and installation, a testament to how technology, language, and gesture intersect in Luke’s practice.
Thank you to everyone who came, listened, filmed, and stayed long after to discuss what they’d just experienced.
And to our friends and collaborators who helped make this possible — we’re grateful.

In our gallery event last night, guests sat rapt while @_lukeshannon delivered his performance-lecture to a full house.
Readings by @david_reinfurt , @mayaontheinternet , and @being_on_line - exploring our simultaneously intimate, fragmented attention - united every gaze throughout the evening. Then the plotter-scanner lit, and Luke stepped on for an exclusive performance.
The ideas explored last night are presented in full in the accompanying book, Replacement Character, available at the link in bio.
A limited number of hour-long private sessions with Shannon and the plotter-scanner are now available. Get in touch to reserve your spot.

[Digital Sector – Group Show]
Founded in 2025, @heft_gallery works with artists exploring photography, artificial intelligence, and generative systems.
For the Digital Sector at Paris Photo 2025, Heft presents 'Illuminating Dark Days', a group show where artists explore moments of isolation, vulnerability, and intense experience through experimental images and digital systems.
Among them, @_lukeshannon repurposes the scanner to rethink the self-portrait in the digital age. He scans his own body, sometimes even while sleeping, creating dark, fragmented images. His works examine identity at the intersection of intimacy and exposure. They reflect the duality of our time, between isolation and constant observation.
