patrzenie jako forma namysłu [czyli my vs świat obrazów konsumowanych z pośpiechem]
__________________________
Rzeczy przechowują gesty, pamięć, czas a nawet ciszę.

family portrait by the sea.
________________________
at @openkamera_cic ,family portraits sit at the core of what we do - not as a product but as a way of connecting people and creating shared experience through photography.
As part of /family portrait by the sea/ we worked directly on positive paper to create a one-of-a-kind image >> this approach is both intentional and environmental; by skipping film, we reduce the use of plastic materials while embracing a slower, more conscious process. The photograph was developed in a seaweed solution straight after the photo has been taken, in our portable darkroom, allowing the image to be shaped not only by the light, but by the place itself.
~ what emerges is more than a portrait; it is a trace of presence, of a family, a landscape, and a moment held together by the process, by the sea.
The Plymouth Sound National Marine Park Horizons project has been made possible thanks to money raised by National Lottery players with £11.6 million funding from the National Lottery Heritage Fund.

Więcej światła, dłuższe dni, cieplejsza woda.. i nagle wszystko nabiera koloru, zielenie, brązy, głębokie czerwienie- to różne pigmenty pozwalają wodorostom łapać światło na różnych głębokościach.
a ja układam z nich morskie 'bukiety'.

/there is no new water/
_____________________
today I found myself journaling in a very unexpected place, at Plymouth Fish Quay. @plymouthfisheries
how little I knew, and how rich the whole experience turned out to be.
Also, have you ever tried /blind sketching/ ?
drawing without really looking at the page, only at what’s in front of you. it slows you down in a different way. you stop trying to make things /right/ and start noticing instead.
I came for a research trip, thinking about water >> there is no new water, only circulation, memory, return.
I learned that fishermen often name their boats after their children; small acts of love floating out at sea.
and I met the bream, a quiet, beautiful fish I hadn’t noticed before.
and also… some harder things.
that /local fish & chips/ doesn’t always mean local fish. in fact, more than 80% of seafood eaten in the UK is imported, even though we're surrounded by water.
and that mackerel,one of the most common, familiar fish, is now at risk.
stocks are being overfished, pushed beyond safe limits, with scientists calling for drastic cuts just to let them recover.
it makes you pause.
what feels abundant isn't always secure.
The initiative is part of “There is no new water - meet your wild neighbours III”
with @take_a_part_plymouth
and then we ended up around a table at @opecafe ,
a meal prepared by Max, fresh local fish, still carrying the taste of the morning. (simply delicious, as always 🤌, and that nettle pesto 🤤)
What a perfect Monday, somewhere between words and thoughts.

and also… some harder things.
that /local fish & chips/ doesn’t always mean local fish. in fact, more than 80% of seafood eaten in the UK is imported, even though we're surrounded by water.
and that mackerel,one of the most common, familiar fish, is now at risk.
stocks are being overfished, pushed beyond safe limits, with scientists calling for drastic cuts just to let them recover.
it makes you pause.
what feels abundant isn't always secure.
What a perfect Monday, somewhere between words and thoughts.

today I found myself journaling in a very unexpected place, at Plymouth Fish Quay.
I came for a research trip, thinking about water >> there is no new water, only circulation, memory, return.

we are taking our /alternative darkroom/ to the sea 🌊
___________________________________
Over the next three weeks, we are running a series of family workshops by the sea called "Family portrait by the Sea" as part of the Blue Sparks initiative. This project invites families to engage with the coastline through a series of fun, creative sessions combined with alternative analogue photography, environmental awareness and shared storytelling.
- can you develop a photo using seaweed? 👀
- come and find out!
This project is supported by @plymsoundnmp and @heritagefunduk and it's all about connecting ourselves with the sea.
Spaces are limited | booking essential

4 days left to see some giant slugs @makesouthwest 🐌
Drawn with inks made from gorse, hawthorn, coreopsis, rusty nails and scrap copper from England, and palo de Campeche (Ek’ / logwood) and cochinilla from Mexico, these slugs are a celebration of being both/and, of slowing down and entering Flow State - the name of the exhibition.
Along with the slugs, you’ll find ink samples and a handmade artist’s book, its pages dyed and printed with words exploring liminal identity, land rights and the colonial histories of the colours.
These sit within a wider group exhibition, curated by @camp_membership & MSW’s Flora Pearson, and featuring artists:
@leahjordanart
@catherine_cartwright_
@rosieperdikeasartandcrafts
@suerossiterceramics
@rachlouall
@christopher.summerfield @maxamillionlobster @timhuttonart
@janejoblingsculptor @charsquire @ionemariarojas
The exhibition is free and located in the Riverside Gallery behind the cafe, on till Saturday 21st March.
Thanks to @_foreignbirds for their photos and for capturing me and my wonderful stepfather giggling at slime.

~ into a dialogue with the sea.

sea
seaweed
a darkroom full of new experiments
more seaweed
and a growing love for the process.
Through the BLUE SPARKS project our analogue photography practice has taken a new direction, and it has been leading us into unexpected places.
Working with the sea feels like a conversation. With materials, with place and with time.
>> perhaps this is how a relationship with a place begins, through curiosity about things that once felt completely invisible.
* also, I miss my seaweed tattoo. It was only temporary, but somehow it felt very right.
[and it is IMPORTANT to remember few things while collecting seaweed >> to only collect what the sea has already released /drifted seaweed/; NOTHING from the living plants.]
This (+so much more to come!) has all been possible thanks to the @heritagefunduk and @plymsoundnmp and the wonderful opportunities they create 💙

To były moje małe korekty tego wewnętrznego portretu, aby być bliżej rzeczywistości, aby móc się zobaczyć bliżej prawdy;

🎞️ tutaj kolejny kadr z naszych spacerów po #dartmoornationalpark ,35mm + kodak portra;
