When I first saw hip hop, I felt at home. I felt seen. I felt understood. When I freestyle, I feel liberated, because I know it was made for me.

ALL BLACK COLLECTIVE | “WHADDUP?!” ✊🏾

So honored to have been invited to perform at Versa-Style & Friends in January! It was so much fun to be around the Street Dance community in LA and witness everyone’s work over three days. Also this was the first time I could connect what I’ve been doing over the past five years to a name and I’m so grateful to have done that with Ari, Carlin, Danzel, and Sylvia. Y’all were so amazing to work with and I can’t wait to continue building with y’all this year✨

Talking about Black American History and Culture during this BHM has me in constant thought about what my history is and how that has influenced my life. I’ve been journaling about who am I in the spaces I occupy, who have I been in other spaces, and what am I becoming for the next space. I put this on my story, but thought I’d leave it here too.

When I first started competing with youth teams in SoCal I could count 10 Black dancers in the whole competition. I would watch or do dance forms were meant for me, but not actively see myself in the dance. That definitely impacted how I showed up in the community as a young adult. I’ve always aimed to create a mirror for young Black kids at these competitions to see themselves. My friends and I would constantly talk about pulling up for the “little Black girl in the audience”. To this day this is my WHY.

As I’ve occupied so many spaces over the years the goal has just evolved. Not only do I want to be a mirror for young Black kids, but also an example of the freedom in doing street dance and choreographed dance. Having a strong sense of who you are is so powerful and being a Hip Hop practitioner has helped me continue to express who l am unapologetically. I was denied the option of doing both as a youth/young adult and I want to continue bridging gaps for anyone that wants to cross back and forth between the two.

See y’all at VIBE

Not only do I want to be a mirror for young Black kids, but also an example of the freedom in doing street dance and choreographed dance. Having a strong sense of who you are is so powerful and being a Hip Hop practitioner has helped me continue to express who l am unapologetically. I was denied the option of doing both as a youth/young adult and I want to continue bridging gaps for anyone that wants to cross back and forth between the two.
