Despite us maintaining an intermittent email correspondence for several years, we didn’t actually meet in person until they came to my label night at Arkaoda in Berlin last November. And then they were on the sound system and lights at @pleasuremax.x.x when I played all night in February.

Billy’s music is playful, fun and, well, really musical, and ‘Godo Bee’ is an excellent example of that, all at 145bpm.

SERVE is London’s underground night with one mission: to bring it back to the music. No gimmicks, no distractions. Just a dark room, a proper sound system, and DJs who know how to move a floor.

I always try to do both, but it can sometimes be difficult to give feedback when you don’t like something or, worse, don’t really understand where it’s coming from.

I had neither of those problems when @_billy_jack__ originally sent me the wicked ‘Godo Bee’ back in November 2023 — though it still took me several months to reply and two years to finally put it out. Billy’s friend @louis.r_ sent me some demos out of the blue back in February, and I immediately took up the challenge of fitting the idiosyncratic ‘Brokendrum’ into this mix. @cromiecromie has sent me tracks for years, and after I put his and @dadvibesinfinity’s track in my Hessle mix, he sent over some archive Pediment material including ‘Yes, Yes, No, Yes’. Lastly, when my good friend @matthew__fit sent me a fresh live set he’d recorded late last year I found myself getting into pretty much every single track — but it was the closer ‘Ambiguous Yearning’ that felt perfect to also close out this mix.
