It’s tough to pick one record for #45friday but here’s a tough two-sider on the Amaret record label that was based in Hollywood, CA. The New Life were a psychedelic rock band from Fresno, CA that evolved out of a garage rock band called The Cindermen. Side A of this 7” is well worth the price of admission. In the third slide, you can hear that the band took an opportunity to give the drummer some. I love it when they do that! 🔥 The track is a cover of a song called “Ha Lese (Le Di Khanna)” written by South African composer Caiphus Semenya, who was the husband of legendary singer Letta Mbulu. Until I did a little research, I was wondering what would possess a bunch of white boys from Southern California to record such a heater in Sesotho which is a Southern Bantu language primarily spoken in Lesotho, but also in South Africa. Turns out that Mr. Semenya settled in Los Angeles in the late 60s on account of the apartheid policies in his home country. While here in LA he teamed up with many artists such as Harry Belafonte, Quincy Jones, Hugh Masakela and as it turns out… The New Life! I really dig the heavy sound they brought to this cover. I was lucky enough to find a dead stock copy while out digging some years back. Side B is an original rock single that definitely holds its own, written by New Life member Don Whaley. Its also a great song, but Side A has my pick for which one gets the most spins. Until next time. Peace and happy #45friday🍩 #recordcollector #psychedelicvinyl #vinylcommunity

Recently, I had the privilege and opportunity of digging through some records that @deejaydaz was parting with. He worked for @deliciousvinyl back in the 90s and pressed some sets of this would be #hiphopclassic for the iconic group @thepharcydelives to take on the road. It’s a 2LP “show vinyl” copy of the #bizarrerideiithepharcyde that would have been spun live by @djmarkluv for The Pharcyde when they were on tour for their debut album back in ‘92 and later by @jswiftpharcyde as well. The cleanest of the two records (Sides A/B) has track listings printed on paper and then taped to the white labels. While the other (Sides C/D) which has definitely seen more needles over the years, has the tracks handwritten in sharpie on them. As a #goldenerahiphop collector, I feel very lucky to own this. I don’t think I’ll ever see another one.

Pulled up to @thevinylcon and knew I was going to make my first stop with @cutchemist 🫡 because he had a couple of OG’s that I still did not own. Been waiting to find a clean copy of Bizarre Ride II #thepharcyde for so long and I also NEVER thought I would own a promo copy of Low End Theory by @atcq but here we are! 🤯Needless to say, “today was a good day.” #hiphopvinyl #raprecords #atcq #qtip #hiphopcollector #lowendtheory #goldenera #hiphop #classichiphop #cutchemist #recordcollecting #diggininthecrates #hiphopvinyl #hiphopvinylcollection

I filled this carrier about a year ago exclusively with gems for safekeeping, and I just opened it for the first time since. Made a decision to let anything in this case go that I don’t listen to, so I’m making sure I spin at least one a day in the new year. Otherwise they’ll be moving on to the next collector. 💯

Anyway. Let’s see what’s inside!

Shoutout to the shops and private dealers that provided these in 2022 & 2023! Man, I miss having money. 😭 🤣

This record was sealed for 49 years… until about an hour ago. 🤷‍♂️ Almost made it to its 50th birthday, but I got it in the mail today and could not wait to give it a spin!

Otherwise known as Grupo Mango, this Venezuelan Salsa band was formed in Caracas in 1975.

Shown here is the US pressing from the same year. There are Venezuelan and Colombian pressings from ‘75 as well which show more colorful artwork on the cover. This record has not been re-issued… yet.

This debut self-titled album is 🔥 front to back. It has been on my radar for a handful of years and I’m glad to be able to check it off the wantlist and add it to my collection.

I remember how almost eight years ago when I started getting to know this woman, I didn’t want to do anything other than find out more. I love making her laugh, and am always looking forward to going on adventures with her every year, multiple times a year. I love her so much! Happy 7th anniversary to the hardest working, most brilliant and talented woman I know! @pompberry Getting married to you was the best decision I ever made. 😘😘
