This week's Centennial Challenge is to join Emerging Leaders.

The Emerging Leaders group is a dynamic community of young professionals ages 21 to 40 who are committed to creating positive change across Southwest Alabama. Members connect through networking, hands on volunteer opportunities, and professional development while collectively contributing more than $30,000 annually to support United Way initiatives.

Emerging Leader membership is open to individuals who are ready to take a step forward in their professional and personal development through annual giving at the following levels: Ages 21 to 30 have a minimum annual contribution of $125, and ages 31 to 40 have a minimum annual contribution of $250.

Members also gain opportunities to build meaningful relationships, engage in hands on service, and learn more about the community needs United Way helps address every day.

Join a network of young professionals driven by service, leadership, and change. As an Emerging Leader, you are not just giving, you are investing in a stronger Southwest Alabama.

Yesterday, United Way of Southwest Alabama attended the 2026 @aarp Mobile Disaster Resiliency Workshop at the @viahealthfitness and Enrichment Center. We were proud to share information about our internal program, 211, and provide weather shelter essentials to help our community prepare before and recover after critical storms.

Throwback to 1977 when the United Fund of Mobile County, part of the legacy that would become United Way of Southwest Alabama, gathered at the Admiral Semmes Hotel to celebrate the power of community giving.

During the annual membership meeting and awards dinner, nearly 200 awards were presented to local businesses, departments, agencies, and individuals whose generosity and employee participation helped strengthen the community through the United Fund campaign.

The evening also recognized the organization's 1977 leadership, including President William J. Gehlen, 1st Vice President O.H. Delchamps Jr., and 2nd Vice President Bishop William M. Smith.

Nearly 50 years later, the spirit of giving and community leadership that shaped our organization in 1977 continues to inspire our work today.

Teams of 2 will compete in a beginner bracket open to all, plus intermediate women's, men's, and mixed doubles. Registration includes tournament play, a speed ball challenge, split the pot, door prizes, and lunch.

In 2026, United Way of Southwest Alabama honors Gigi's lasting impact by introducing the Gigi and Conrad Armbrecht Giving Circle, recognizing lifetime giving between $300,000 and $499,999 and celebrating her continued commitment to improving lives across Southwest Alabama.

From leadership in the past to continued legacy today, Gigi's dedication to service continues to make a difference in our community.
