Spinning these two colorways for @321residence

Early studies done at @321residence in Buffalo.

Continuing to explore dance and geometric abstraction I combine several artistic genres spanning perhaps millennia to the present.

At first glance you can see the impact Cubism and Futurism holds on me, that has been clear most of my artistic career but reading between the lines there is a lot more to these works and the subject it represents.

First it is a dancer, then its a mathematical solution that requires an understanding of geometry, relationships between space and planes, then theres is intention- the dancers moving in and out of 3d space, following that is velocity, even if it is a still like the second frame where clarity and structure hold.

The other part of this is the work is built into childhood not as play but as discovery, geometry is our first art form its how the world informs us. It is at its core indigenous marking and symbol making.

Another unknown part of this work is music, it is made with music and informed by music as well, even becoming staff notations dancing across a musical score.

Lastly these lines, forms largely derive from my experience of being close friends and collaborating with dancers like the Rock Steady Crew and the global Breaking community.

Additionally my painting trains as a kid through the mid 70s-80s, this is muscle memory from those lines, those structures.

I would love to say we were friends because that is absolutely how he made me feel, but we were acquaintances through his alumni connection to Rollins College. I would see him when he was in town. We need an ART CITY. All artists and craftspeople. No gallerists. The "museum" would be essentially a cooperative market. The tavern would have salon theme nights by discipline.The restaurants and coffee shops wouldn't be staffed by artists.. they would be staffed by indentured hedgefund managers.
Just sayin.
