🏆 The “Queer Anna” prize is awarded to “Cleanliness” (2024) directed by Andrejs Brīvulis.

The special nomination goes to “The Story” (2025) by Vadim Mochalov.

As one of the jury states: “We were impressed by the programme’s focus on nuance over spectacle. Cleanliness by Andrejs Brīvulis stood out for its poetic minimalism and precision, while The Story by Vadim Mochalov reminded us that queer intimacy and personal narratives remain deeply political, especially in times of instability. Although both awarded films centred gay male protagonists, their emotional core reached far beyond gender and spoke in a universal language of vulnerability, connection, and the need to be seen. At the same time, this also highlighted the importance of creating more space for the wider spectrum of queer experiences and identities to appear on screen.”

This year, the “Pure Queer” programme stood out with a particularly rich programme, unveiling the first “Queer Anna” award to the best queer short film from Eastern and Central Europe. 🎬

30. Rīgas Starptautiskā Īsfilmu festivāla GRAND PRIX uzvar latviešu īsfilma “Kur saulīte nakti guļ?” (2025), ko radījusi Ildze Felsberga (@ildzefelsberga). Apsveicam laureāti! 🏅

The 30th Riga International Short Film Festival Festival 2ANNAS GRAND PRIX is awarded to the Latvian short film “Where Does the Sun Sleep at Night?” (2025) by Ildze Felsberga (@ildzefelsberga). We congratulate the winner!🏅

The jury says: “This bold and uncompromising work presents a genre-bending vision that is at once hilariously absurd and profoundly moving. By pairing the ancient soul of Dainas with the sterile drudgery of budget deficits and bureaucracy, the filmmaker breathes new life into folklore - proving that traditional wisdom remains a vital tool for navigating the complexities of the modern world.

With rigorous formal precision, every frame within its muted, grey aesthetic captures the existential farce of office life. It becomes a powerful cinematic statement, reminding us that even in a world of spreadsheets and sliding elevators, the oldest questions - those of the soul and the sun - still demand an answer.”

Thank you to our sponsor @files.fm for providing a monetary prize of 1000€!

We are continuing our collaboration between @talkingshorts and 2ANNAS ISFF Emerging Critics' Workshop! The participants – Emel-Elizabeth Tuulik (Estonia), Elizabete Didža (Latvia) and Livia Maria Sîrbu (Lithuania / Romania) – wrote an article reflecting about the “Baltic Burden”.

In the article the Emerging Critics explores when a shared regional sensibility hardens into a reproducible style, and what distinguishes the “Baltic burden” from other cinematic conditions. 👀

We want to thank the team of @talkingshorts for this great opportunity, and we invite you all to read the article here: https://talkingshorts.com/the-baltic-burden-between-departure-and-stagnation

The workshop was led by Michiel Philippaerts and supported by @kinocentrs, @riga.lv and @kulturkapitals

⬇️LV
Jau trešo gadu turpinām sadarbību ar īsfilmām veltīto platformu @talkingshorts.

2ANNAS Jauno kritiķu darbnīcas dalībnieces – Emela Elizabete Tūlika (Igaunija), Elizabete Didža (Latvija) un Līvija Marija Sirbu (Lietuva / Rumānija) publicējušas rakstu par “Baltijas nastu”.

Rakstā Jauno kritiķu darbnīcas dalībnieces pēta, kad kopīga reģionālā izjūta pārtop reproducējamā stilā, un ar ko “Baltijas nasta” atšķiras no citiem kinematogrāfiskiem nosacījumiem. 👀

ENG:
During the festival, several question and answer sessions with film directors and their creative teams took place, where viewers had the opportunity to ask questions to the film authors, gain a deeper insight into the films and their creative/production process, as well as exchange opinions.

Thank you to everyone who participated and enriched this year’s festival with these truly valuable dialogues! ❤️

We successfully wrapped up two lectures, two discussions, a keynote, a masterclass, a presentation, and a networking event. The programme also included a walk and network session, the Found Footage workshop “Self-Archiving,” and the third edition of Emerging Critics’ Workshop.
