TONIGHT IS THE NIGHT! Tonight we open our brand new Mill 2 Gallery! 🎉🎉🎉🎉
We have spent the last year planning and building this incredible gallery and we couldn’t be happier with how it’s turned out. It’s truly one of a kind, with expansive exhibition and performance space, and spectacular views of the Manchester skyline.
We also cannot express our gratitude enough to all of the tradespeople, friends and studio residents that have helped bring this together. We couldn’t have done it without you. The biggest thank you to our Garry, who has worked tirelessly to make this place absolutely stunning (you won’t really see him featured but he’s integral to our project)!
Tonight the gallery opens with this beautiful show by @benjaminsebastian and we couldn’t imagine anything more fitting and powerful for the opening.
Preview tonight 6-9PM (all welcome just turn up!) or book to view on Thursdays, Fridays or Saturdays during the run (tomorrow til 10 May) - link in bio🔥🔥

✨ About the show...
This exhibition explores the peripheries of our world and
everyday lives: the edges, the boundaries, and the spaces left behind.
For some, these margins are physical: a forgotten landscape or a stark boundary. For others, peripheries exist as communities: groups of people who, though displaced, forge hope and joy through the connections they build. By shedding light on these fringes, we honour those who see the world through a different lens.
The eight artists featured here were selected through an open call, each bringing a new and exciting approach to the theme. Through painting, drawing, 3D work, film, print, and performance, they offer distinct insights into the margins of our shared experiences.
We invite you to wander through the gallery, occupy its edges, and seek out the various interpretations as you move between the works. Handouts are available to elaborate further on each artist’s approach to the theme.
This exploration is deeply rooted in the identity of 1853
Studios. Housed in a former textile mill rich with industrial
history, our space sits on the periphery of central Manchester. In a landscape where Oldham has often been culturally
overlooked, this gallery provides the breathing room necessary for new and challenging perspectives to emerge.

The opening of Peripheries last week @ 1853 Studios & Gallery marked the last in a series of exhibitions and events funded by Arts Council England over the past year. @1853studios
It’s also my last exhibition at 1853 Studios, marking the end of my 3 years there as Creative Director & Curator! 🥹 Although I left my permanent role in December, I continued to oversee and curate the ACE project through to its end in a freelance capacity, and I’m so happy and proud of what we achieved throughout the project. ♥️
Peripheries presents the work of Rabia Begum, Thomas Bradley, Rio Darwin, Kamil Duda, Daisy Fulton, Gemma Lees, Mahrokh Mofid Nakhaei, and Iqra Tariq - each interpreting the theme of periphery. For some it’s the exploration of forgotten or eroding parts of a city or coastline, for some it’s a community found through displacement, and for some it explores those everyday folk that slip into the margins, but take centre stage in this exhibition. The exhibition theme builds on the identity of Oldham as a ‘periphery town’, and how in these areas we are free to play, experiment, fail and build new identities for a town.
Get over to @1853studios next week to catch the last few days of the show! Open Thursday, Friday & Saturday 11am - 4pm! Head to @1853studios for more info on access ❤️🔥
My experience in Oldham has been incredible, to be able to help build such an epic multi-gallery space that serves local creatives and communities here over the last 3 years has been a true honour. Thank you to everyone I’ve met and worked with both in the studios and in the town, it’s become a home from home.
A special thank you to Kathy Smith, who has been the most energetic, positive and inspiring Creative Producer for this ACE project over the last 9 months - nothing could have happened without your unwavering support and energy ❤️🔥
I’m moving towards just freelancing for a while, focussing on roles in different settings such as heritage and collections, something I’ve wanted to build more experience in for a long time! Oh and a bit more time on my own practice ☺️
Over and out !!!

Yesterday was an incredible experience hosting this drawing and painting workshop as part of my solo exhibition at @1853studios and gallery space. Seeing people from different backgrounds come together to create, explore, learn and express themselves through art was truly inspiring.
I am grateful to everyone who participated with such openness, curiosity and beautiful energy which added something special to the space. It was more than just a workshop, it became a celebration of creativity, connection, and the power of artistic expression.
A special appreciation to @1853studios for providing the gallery space for both the exhibition and the workshop, and for supporting this creative experience.

A special appreciation to @1853studios for providing the gallery space for both the exhibition and the workshop, and for supporting this creative experience.

Inspired by my on going project ‘Made in Persia’, this work moves into the next chapter of my journey.
A response to the ‘Peripheries’ exhibition and the works of artists @1853studios through the workshop:We Need to Keep This House
Behind every woman like me stands the shadow of fear, punishment, censorship, and the constant threat designed to silence us.But we are still here.Still creating.Still resisting.
The fight continues.

Progress on my "Changes" artwork
and there certainly has been changes from the original painting I was working on. During creating the starter, I decided it was time for a change in style.
So from one thing to another

In this episode, meet the artists as they share their work, their thoughts on open calls and what the art world needs more of.
