The tour focused on how public space, housing, infrastructure, and placemaking can help shape a more connected and community-centered Brownsville.

Betsy Head Park serves approximately 39,000 residents within a half-mile, and on a beautiful spring evening, the park was full of life. People playing basketball, team sports, exercising, relaxing, gathering, socializing and truly enjoying the space. It was a powerful reminder of what public work is all about.

This project was transformational for Brownsville. The park had not seen meaningful investment in decades, and bringing it back required years coordination, approvals, persistence, community meetings, and a lot of time navigating the complexities that often comes with public-sector work.

When we cut the ribbon in 2020, it was special, but seeing the park now, fully alive and active, thriving, with new housing rising immediately around it, you truly begin to feel the “green pulse” this park has in the community.
