Meet about a third of our residents here at Clyde St…. There are another 80 people missing from the soirée we had yesterday.

It blows my mind to think of all the creative and positive juices we generate week after week on this Awabakal and Worimi land, with community and sustainability front of mind.

Here’s to a long sustainable future for community driven creative practice. 🙌🏼💜🙌🏼

With much love and power,
@katskoumbas xx

The Secrets of Dawn Exhibition, created by @cootagirls Aboriginal Corporation, featured content from Dawn Magazine alongside contemporary works from Coota Girls survivors and descendants as physical evidence of the calculated efforts and propaganda used by previous governments under the Aborigines Protection Act (1909-1969) to progress the agenda of assimilation of First Nations people.

Feather Edge had the pleasure of completing the detailed exhibition builds and artwork installation.
With thanks to the following for engaging Feather Edge to be a part of this important exhibition:
@orbit.companyau creative directors Meagan Gerrard and Alex McWhirter from Coota Girls Aboriginal Corporation, curation from @dennisgolding to project manage this important, truth-telling exhibition.

Secrets of Dawn was presented at Carriageworks in August 2024.
Additional collaborators:
@carriageworks - venue services and additional technical support
@dplr.company - for video control playback, curved truss systems and atmospheric lighting
@scrimworks.com.au - custom, large-scale fabric printed artworks
@signwavenewtown - full wall vinyl and didactic printing and installation
Producer: @ahhyeahbillycheese

'Healing land, remembering Country' is a powerful work by Kuku Yalanji artist @tonyalbert at Elizabeth Farm. Previously displayed on Cockatoo Island as part of the Biennale of Sydney, the wooden ‘greenhouse nursery’ is 4m high and 8m in diameter, and contains woven baskets made by artists from @bulabulaarts @gapuwiyakcultureandarts , Numbulwar Numburindi Arts @numbulwar and Tjanpi Desert Weavers @tjanpidesertweavers in Central Australia, and native plants supplied by the Muru Mittigar nursery @murumittigar
-
Feather Edge worked closely with Tony Albert and the Biennale team to design and construct the shade structure and planter stands for the installation.
-
Albert describes Healing land, remembering Country as a project ‘full of love and reflection’. It expands on a work that he created in 2018 at the site of the former Blacktown Native Institution where he collaborated with local children to reimagine the lives of those of a similar age who had been placed there nearly 200 years ago. They gifted messages on paper embedded with local plant seeds that eventually degraded into the soil to regenerate. This ‘memory exchange’ was a symbolic gesture of intergenerational healing at a site of trauma to Aboriginal people. 'Healing land, remembering Country' similarly invites the public to engage with the complex histories of place and sites of trauma.
-
Commissioned by the Biennale of Sydney, @sullivanstrumpf and with generous support from the Australia Council for the Arts and Create NSW, and the Medich Foundation.
Acquisition and permanent display at Elizabeth Farm, Parramatta, @museumsofhistorynsw
Special thanks to Hannah Cheetham @built_in_kind and the Feather Edge team.

Back in 2021 in collaboration with @paper_moose and @ourcbcity Feather Edge designed, constructed and installed 4 ‘Microrooms’ as part of the Council's Streets as Shared Spaces Program.
__

These 4 installations which ran from Oct 2020 - Oct 2021, occupied otherwise unused public spaces, transforming them into welcoming urban shelters.

Images 1-3: ‘Light House’
With seating, a pack-and-go counter and solar panels. It’s eco-friendly and it’s a place to rest whether you’re on your way to the station in Bankstown or Campsie Centre.

Images 4-5: ‘Tapestries’
Green oasis with timber seating, plants and bike racks. This micro room is inspired by the rich tapestry of our City’s culture. Spot the different languages saying ‘Welcome’ including the Dharug word “Warami” meaning "Good to see you". In two locations, Bankstown & Earlwood.

A selection of theatre set builds and installations over the years for production designer, Jeremy Allen.

@jeremynallen finds an equilibrium between contemporary architecture and pure fantasy. His attention to detail and ambitious designs make for excellent theatre every time.

#Repost - Spotted in the wild this giant rocking horse we built for @griffintheatre in 2023
・・・
Remember Dee Dee—our beloved giant rocking horse designed by Isabel Hudson for our 2023 production of PONY by Eloise Snape?

Well—turns out Dee Dee is an in-demand star! We were thrilled to see Dee Dee gallop across state borders to feature at the @stompinggroundbeer Loading Dock Bar throughout the entirety of this year’s @melbfringe.

We love seeing our set pieces reused in interesting theatrical ways! Griffin strongly advocates for the sharing and re-use of design elements across the performing arts industry. And the results are unexpected, innovative and just plain fun!

Congratulations Dee Dee—or dare we say: “Neigh!” #Griffin2023 #gtcpony
