We have exciting news. We’re changing our name from Alda Ly Architecture to ALA Studio!

This change emphasizes that the firm Alda founded six years ago is bigger than just one person – it’s thriving because of the amazing team driving its success.

As our name evolved to reflect the collaborative teamwork that we love, so did our brand identity. We worked with our talented friends at @oncefutureoffice on the renaming and branding.

From Once-Future:
“The brand identity balances the firm’s friendly approach with its quality product, drawing inspiration from many of the playful yet refined forms and colors in their architecture, interiors, and furniture.

The impactful logomark, which plays with form and counterform, was designed to be flexible and active in space, shifting and stretching across axes to provide moments of expression within the system.”

Our Women’s History Month series finds its close at ALA Studio — housed in the historic Corbin Building.

Rooted in research and guided by empathy, ALA Studio responds to real needs—from the endlessly flexible Bao seating to environments designed with people at the center. The result is a female-led culture that leads by doing.

New Studio Snapshot conversation on Archinect: Bridging Architecture, Interiors, and Furniture Design With ALA Studio

We speak with Alda Ly, founder and principal of New York–based ALA Studio @_ala_studio. Ly talks about breaking down architecture and interiors silos, expanding into furniture design, and what it means to lead a certified minority- and woman-owned practice.

"I am excited by the minority and women firm owners I've encountered who are actively rethinking how they run their businesses," Ly tells us. "They are focusing on creating more supportive and flexible environments for their staff and exploring new design process approaches that better reflect the collaborative ways we work today."

Our summer and fall happy hours this year are experiences curated by individual team members to allow our team a deeper understanding of the background of each colleague, whether through food, cultural activities or sport. We kicked off our first event with an evening of pétanque @carreauclub at Industry City organized by a team member from Montréal. It was so much fun!

Our office went on a fun field trip to check out the new @printempsnewyork store, and it did not disappoint! There was so much design to look at we barely registered the merchandise!

We stopped at the Red Room Bar for a drink after. Don't miss the shoe room just outside the bar - the mosaics are incredible!

We’re excited to finally share more on our Christian Louboutin Americas Headquarters project with you! This 22,000sf project in New York City serves as the Americas headquarters for the luxury French fashion brand. Located in Manhattan’s NoMad district, the office spans three floors of a landmarked building once known as Coleman House, and is designed to foster collaboration, connection and flexibility for employees.

Our design emphasizes a balance between work and social spaces, with features like a central café and gathering space on the reception floor, flexible work areas and multiple lounges throughout the three stories.

We integrated existing historic elements of the site with modern design, incorporating Christian Louboutin’s iconic red with subtle accents throughout the space, such as the red lining the brick openings. The space also showcases many vintage decorative elements collected by the designer over the years. Each floor features a distinct color palette, and the design blends Parisian inspiration with a New York aesthetic, as seen in the black metal arched arcade of the corridors.

The project was built by @thevoreagroup and MEP engineering design was provided by @cosentinieng . We also collaborated with @looplighting for lighting design. ALA team of Alda, @marissafeddema, @chloeeb7, @rachel_rockford, @camille_brustlein

As the weather slowly gets colder, we’ve found ourselves wanting to be in warm, cozy and supportive spaces and thinking about what makes a space feel that way. In our designs, we use color, lighting and form to create this feeling.

Deep, rich colors can be used to anchor a space and create a sense of intimacy. Glowing lighting, especially when you can hide the light source, is a way to bring warmth. And layering in curves and soft shapes through the design and furniture can create those cocooning, supportive moments we can all use more of. Swipe through the carousel to see some examples of how we used these strategies in our projects!
