Rehearsal for @elliotbergman ‘s performance at @theshepherddetroitApril 15, 2026. One of the coolest musical performances I’ve ever seen. I was teaching the night of the performance so I went to the rehearsal.
The performance was the conclusion to an exhibition including Elliot’s hand cast bells and sculptures.
Elliot was joined by some fantastic musicians who played the bells and sculptures, as well as guitars, saxophone, flute, harmonium, electric kalimba, and the church organ. The acoustics of the church was an instrument unto itself.
The rehearsal was better for photography. I got to move around a lot and experience the whole space.
That said I came straight from photographing tornado damage in my neighborhood and didn’t head back home to pack any fast prime lenses. Photographing later by candlelight was challenging but I always look at low light as an opportunity to get experimental with my photography.
@xoxowar recorded the audio and Deb Agolli led a video crew at the show. Can’t wait for more people to experience a really magic night in Detroit.

Excited to be back in Detroit at the Shepherd. Playing tonight with an incredible crew including @xoxowar @grtchngnzls @intallbuildings @jamieshwhm @davehurl @alltimegringo and @rachele_eve. Thanks to the amazing team at the Shepherd and @msallisonglenn for thoughtfully curating the show.
It’s a joy to get to play in this beautiful space. Slide one is the view from the old pipe organ, which we just fired up for the first time in many years, and it seems to want to play in E-minor. :) Also just opened up my new synth from @korg_berlin which is pretty fun. We will have about 30 posters for sale designed by @ikhoor and printed at @vgkids. Maybe some candles too. See you soon. @theshepherddetroit @librarystreetcollective

I’m playing with my sister Natalie Bergman tonight at Big Ears Festival in Knoxville, Tennessee. Here’s a shot of her in my studio when we were working on her newest record: “My Home is Not In This World.” We are on at 7pm at Barley’s. I’m on keys and flute.

Another batch of tiles just came out of the kiln. Thanks for all of the interest in the last batch! I’ve been making each tile by hand for the last couple of years. Each tile is unique. :) 🔥 #tile #ceramics #glaze #pattern #stripes

Glacier is a lost film score for an experimental film that never materialized. Rodrigo Amarante and I recorded these droney/percussive soundscapes at my Los Angeles studio, and today you can get a copy on limited-edition cassette from our friends at @fellowshiprecords. It’s their first official release. @insheepsclothinghifi wrote up a nice piece about the music and they have a few copies for sale on their site as well. Rodrigo and I made 200 little mono prints for the sleeves and each one is hand numbered and signed. Not available on streaming services. Cassette only! Thanks to @pheeels for the thoughtful listening and writing. Thanks to @lesliekirchhoff for the lovely photos of the tapes. Copies also available at @pianola_records in Tokyo!

𝘎𝘓𝘈𝘊𝘐𝘌𝘙: @elliotbergman and @_rodrigo_amarante are two multi-disciplinary artists with deep musical histories: Bergman’s credits include cult 4AD group His Name is Alive, afro-beat collective NOMO, and sessions with Dos Santos, LA LOM, and Neal Francis; Amarante was a founding member of Brazilian rock band Los Hermanos, Little Joy with The Strokes’ drummer Fabrizio Moretti, and composed the iconic theme song for Narcos. In some ways worlds apart — Bergman’s roots lie in Michigan while Amarante called Rio de Janeiro home for decades — the pair would by chance come together as kindred spirits through Los Angeles’ web of musical connections.
Last week, Bergman and Amarante released their debut collaboration Glacier via @FellowshipRecords Originally intended as the score for an experimental film about the disappearance of glaciers around the world, the album is a deeply meditative listen with fragments of melody, slow-moving drone textures and organic percussion rhythms. The recordings took place over a number of sessions at Bergman’s studio in Los Angeles and feature many of his own handmade bell instruments along with various woodwinds. Somewhere between improvisational jazz, drone, and musique concrète, Glacier has a wonderfully otherworldly quality to it, drawing listeners in with its uniquely abstract pace and cavernous atmospheres.
A few copies of the limited cassette tape are available now via @ischifirecords ~ link in bio ~ Shops can reach out to orders@insheepsclothinghifi.com for wholesale pricing. Read our interview with Elliot Bergman on our website!
