Akzidenz-Grotesk is one of the most popular typefaces of the last 100 years. It was the cornerstone of the Swiss International Style, and for decades, was the heart of the New York City Subway’s visual identity.
In the 1920s, a custom variant of Akzidenz-Grotesk was created for Germany’s emerging system of industrial standards. It was never mass produced, and few people have ever seen it.
Now on Peacham, design historian Dan Reynolds takes us deep into the Berthold type-cutting archives, unearthing the backstory behind this little-known version of an otherwise ubiquitous typeface.

It is so much cheaper and faster to get than an original copy of _Schriften Lettering Écritures_ from 1949 📖
