Meet @triloxworkshop, a Brooklyn-based research, design, and fabrication studio, which will be part of the circularity trade fair that precedes Current Work: Toward Circular Construction, with @felix.heisel.

Tri-Lox is a Greenpoint-based design and fabrication studio that creates architectural surfaces and elements from locally sourced wood. Working with experts in forestry, conservation, and building technology, the studio sources material through three distinct pathways—sustainably harvested timber, reclaimed wood from deconstruction, and salvage from the urban forest—to produce durable, regionally rooted products in service of a more sustainable and circular built environment.

🗓️ Thu, May 14 @ 5:30 pm
📍 Lobby outside the Rose Auditorium at @thecooperunion
🎟️ Free and open to all, advanced registration required

Stay tuned to learn more about other organizations and vendors at the circularity trade fair, including @coadaptive, @materialsforthearts, RECLAIM NYC, @repaircafeelbarrio, and @vitra Circle. Register at the link in bio.

Congrats to our friends at @historicgreenwood for the opening of the Green-House, a new exhibition space and research + education center set around the restored 1895 Weir Greenhouse on 5th Avenue. We’re so excited to be a part of this project, designed by @architecture.research.office, through our tree salvage work with Green-Wood: Three of the conference tables in the new building are made from Sweetgum, Black Cherry, and Black Oak trees salvaged from Green-Wood’s arboretum. The wood now has a second life at the Green-House. Big thanks to ARO and Green-Wood for working with us to chart a pathway for the material to return to the cemetery (swipe through to get a look at what this process looked like!). Read about our approach to regional sourcing and wood reuse on @archleague’s @urbanomnibus (linked in our story). Thank you to Enrique Aureng Silva for this piece that captures our mission to be responsive to our surrounding environment and to find the best and highest use for the wood coming out of local forests as well as deconstruction.

Black Locust — Slate is the latest addition to our Watershed Collection. A locally-sourced, sustainable alternative to tropical hardwoods, Black Locust is dense, highly durable, and excels in a wide variety of exterior applications. Slate is more than a finish: this natural protective wood treatment penetrates the wood to create a barrier against the elements. This not only bolsters Black Locust’s natural duarability, but also ensures it weathers evenly regardless of variations in UV exposure. The result is a wood that quickly matures into a consistent, beautiful silver patina. Swipe to see the progress of a Black Locust — Slate custom panelized rainscreen for @mkcarchitecture’s Watershed House in upstate New York. More details on this project coming soon! But in the meantime, these work-in-progress images show how the Black Locust — Slate silvers over time.

Swipe to get a closer look at the Packer Collegiate Garden House’s Thermally Modified Oak louver screens — one of several wood features included in @wxystudio’s mass timber addition to the school. Thermal modification increases wood’s durability through a process that uses only heat and steam. The result is a regionally sourced and made exterior product that complements other sustainable elements and energy efficient innovations of the building.

The surprise and delight of seeing a project in miniature! The Delacorte Theater is a new addition to @nybg’s Holiday Train Show — running now through 1/11. While the actual theater’s facade is reclaimed Redwood from NYC water towers, this replica uses Black Walnut, Black Locust, and Hickory bark 🤗

Our White Pine — Alabaster flooring in @dusendusen’s home. An essential part of the architectural vernacular in the Northeast, Eastern White Pine is a classic choice that still offers a contemporary aesthetic, particularly in this Alabaster finish.
