In the midst of late nights, reminiscing and new year wishes I have a little surprise - you can now pre-save my next single from my coming EP ☂︎
“Saltwater Kiss” is nostalgic, about hard goodbyes and codependency, and soon it will be living a very independent life out on it’s own. You can hear it from the 17th of January and there’s a pre-save link in my story
I wrote it 4 years ago, played it during warm up for @auroramusic in 22 (giving it the most lovely, unique live memories), re-recorded it during a strange time, and finally left it in strength
Some music must be released in order to move on and this one feels like that kind. I hope it can soothe your melancholic heart

Dev Dhunsi: Unmistakably You

Med utgangspunkt i fotoboken Mixed folder Unmistakably You seg ut som en romlig fabel om språk, tilhørighet og «mixed» som kunstnerisk metode, og utvider bokas tematikk inn i rommet. Der boken bygget en mytisk verden over sidene, åpner utstillingen verdenen fysisk, som en labyrint av jacquard-vevde tekstiler, bambusmoduler og fotografier i stort format.

I kjernen ligger det samme spørsmålet: hva skjer når språket ikke strekker til for å navngi levd erfaring? På norsk finnes det ikke ett ord som fullt ut oversetter «mixed». Dhunsi tar dette språklige fraværet som et utgangspunkt, og nærmer seg identitet ikke som en fast kategori, men som en skiftende, porøs prosess, noe som glipper, tar nye former og motsetter seg entydige definisjoner.

Utstillingen bruker «mixing» ikke bare som tema, men som metode. Dokumentar og myte, arkiv og allegori, kropp og struktur flettes sammen. Fotografiske bilder veves inn i tekstile flater; fortellinger opptrer i fragmenter; stier folder seg tilbake i seg selv. Når man trer inn i Unmistakably You, bidrar de hvite veggene og det hvite gulvet til at orienteringen varsomt forstyrres og det å se blir en kroppslig erfaring.

Der fotoboken Mixed foreslår et eksperimentelt, mytisk rom for nye former for liv, inviterer Unmistakably You publikum til faktisk å gå inn i det. Rommet blir en øvelse i kompleksitet. Identitet er her ikke noe vi eier, men noe vi gjør, noe som vibrerer mellom materialer, minner og bevegelse.

Unmistakably You er kuratert av Kathrine Wilson, og realisert med støtte fra Billedkunstnernes Vederlagsfond og Norsk Fotografisk Fond.
