💌 Thank you all for your support of Refuge Worldwide this year. With a massive team effort, we've hit our fundraising target, moved the radio station from Weserstraße to Niemetzstraße, and begun a whole new chapter of this adventure. We’re delighted to announce a collaborative evening with one of the most important voices in the underground music community today. Born in Berlin in 2015 as a grassroots fundraising initiative, Refuge Worldwide@refugeworldwide.space has grown into a 24/7 radio station, educational platform and community space dedicated to amplifying underrepresented voices through music, conversation and collective action.

Working alongside organisations supporting women, refugees, unhoused communities and marginalised groups, Refuge Worldwide exists at the intersection of culture, solidarity and education. Since expanding their mission in 2021, they’ve created space for a wide spectrum of artists, DJs, thinkers and activists, and their new home in Neukölln houses a live radio station, music production studio, café and multi-purpose venue hosting workshops, screenings, talks and community-led programming.

Their work has been an inspiration to all of us at renae, and offers a vision of what can be possible within our own music community. As befits this celebration of their ethos and commitment to musical freedom, Refuge co-founder No Plastic will start the night off with two hours of deep and diverse underground sounds before passing on to team member and resident Obelix, whose Daisy Records label and store has furnished those in the know with new strains of IDM, dub, ambient and house.

From then on it’s all about local talent, with NTS resident SNO bouncing behind the decks at midnight to showcase her eclectic and intuitive selections, sourced from all over the globe and aimed directly at the dancers. Closing the curtain with a two hour celebration of bass weight, syncopation and unbridled energy is unstoppable producer and DJ Ayy Den, who absolutely guarantees that no one will be slinking off early.

Free entry and fun, come down and dance with kindred spirits.

🏥 Workers at Berlin's Vivantes hospitals including maintenance staff, assistants, gardeners, cleaners and cooks have been on strike this year, with a crowdfunding campaign set up to cover their loss of wages.

Berlin alliance "Health Instead of Profits" and other organisations have been building a support group for the striking workers and are currently collecting donations. The strike was launched as a last resort after the outsourcing of jobs at Berlin hospitals.

Writing on the crowdfunding page and in Klasse Gegen Klasse, Karl from the strike's central team explains that, "hospitals are increasingly run like businesses that must generate profit. Health is becoming a commodity. Entire departments are outsourced to subsidiaries where lower wages can be paid". The crowdfunding page states that outsourcing of jobs has seen "lower pay, staff shortages, and increased workloads."

Vivantes operates several clinics and hospitals, including the Kreuzberg facility Klinikum Am Urban on Dieffenbachstraße.

Healthcare in Germany is extremely expensive, while Berlin's Senate (the sole owner of Vivantes) is operating under austerity measures, cutting spending and outsourcing services due to a "shortfall in the state budget".

In 2025, Germany's military spending grew to $114 billion according to the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (April 2026).

Around 2,200 people work for Vivantes subsidiary groups. Over 98% of their union members voted for strike action.

@magmafestival_ is back for a second edition in August

Running across multiple indoor and outdoor spaces at the @rso.berlin event complex, MAGMA invites a range of globally-renowned names alongside favourite local talent to build on its successful first edition in 2025.

The likes of UK luminary Joy Orbison, New York’s Anthony Naples, new generation stars Skin On Skin and Mia Koden, DJ Travella of the Nyege Nyege crew,Refuge affiliate Tai Lokun, and Slapfunk resident Doudou MD will take to the decks, whilst live sets come from avant-garde R&B sensation Erika De Casier, Ghanaian high-life act Ata Kak, Headache and Deki Alem. The line up has something for everyone, whether you’re looking for laidback, global sounds in the day time or full-throttle rave at night.
